The NHI mansion in Maxwell is a historic symbol of the organization's mission. It was built in 1903, when Tx cotton esd king and Mexican labor was a few quarters a week....truth be known, the town was little more than a labor camp. NHI acquired the property in 1985 and added more acreage as near as possible to its orginal homstead of 50 acres. Now the second story porch needs repairs and 10 room structure needs to be leveled (foundation work) I'm making a personal donation towards these repairs, but also need the help of some serious minded alumni to join me....

Have been asked by the board to look among our younger alumni for future candidates for the board of trustees or to serve on special board appointed commissions and committees as part of their development in governance. So in looking back at nhi after 40 years, a lot of great memories come to mind....good experience, great learning opportunities, strong support from new found friends...the question that makes me stay up at night is who's going to be on guard in the future...or even if it's important to keep NHI moving at all....staff can only do so much...and it takes a lot more than them to keep the work going....who mobilizes alums, keeps them involved, understands the importance of the mission .....who? e

Ernie's turning 80!  As his daughter, I know how much he loves the NHI ranch in Maxwell. Through the years he paid out of his pocket for the patio, deck, spiritual area, chapel, and donated the land to NHI! He's always worked to keep up the property, even as he's gotten older - we catch him saddlin...
