The Old Settlers Steering Committee (a Non-profit which was formed in 2008 due to the previous Committee having a Administrative Dissolution) would like to send a huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who has helped and supported this group over the last three years. When you are on the Committee it means you sign up to work, not expect free benefits, and it is not free drinks for you and your friends all weekend. There is always work to be done.
The Maxwell City Council (who have given us no financial support over the last three years, alongwith not cooperating in our attempts to get licenses and permits approved in a timely manner, along with publicly degrading us in the process) has decided they will make the decision as to who runs the event. No notifications of their decisions to us knowing that contracts have been made in advance for upcoming years. It is a set date and permission to use the Park was never an issue until this year. Ordinances that were put in place by previous Councils to assure the annual event is protected are being changed. (?)
We are proud of what this group has accomplished and brought to the community through the years. Several thousands of dollars have gone into the Park from the Old Settlers Steering Committee. Through Grants and Old Settlers contributions all the Grain Bin structures, some concrete work, picnic tables, additions to the Freedom Rock area, and the updating of the Bandshell. All for the Community to use throughout the year,
Many changes that were out of our control have taken place over the years. Expenses, insurance liabilities,, permits, and licenses have dictated what events we are allowed to promote and provide. Once again, THANK YOU to everyone that helped, set. up, organized an event, helped clean up, and stepped up and helped out for a few hours. Also for everyone who came down and supported us.
