Memorial Valor Foundation

Memorial Valor Foundation “Remember, Honor, Memorialize” Our mission is to remember, honor, and memorialize fallen Special Operations soldiers through the world of competitive shooting.

We want the families to know they are not alone during and after this tragic time. During our competition we share stories and remember who these heroes were and the life they led. Every person who competes walks away with a sense of who each of these men were. All proceeds for our events go directly to the families of the fallen soldiers we are honoring at the event. We will never forget and not let anyone else forget, the ultimate sacrifice these brave men made for this country.

Today we remember Warrant Officer 1 Sean Mullen of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Sean Mullen was the kind of man who never stopped learning. Whether he was studying his craft as a Green Beret, researching a new project, restoring an old Jeep, or diving into a book, he approached life with an insatiable curiosity and a determination to master whatever was in front of him. His teammates often referred to him as a “walking encyclopedia,” not because he knew everything, but because he was always willing to learn more and share that knowledge with others.

Sean was a mentor, a teacher, and a leader whose impact reached far beyond the battlefield. He loved hunting, collecting antique fi****ms, and bringing old machines back to life. He believed in hard work, self-improvement, and taking the time to help others succeed. Those qualities earned him the respect and admiration of the soldiers who served alongside him.

After nearly two decades of service, Sean had become the kind of Green Beret younger soldiers aspired to emulate. He was steady, humble, and dedicated to his team. His leadership was built on competence, trust, and a genuine investment in the people around him.

On June 2, 2013, Sean was killed in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device struck during combat operations. Though his life was cut short, the lessons he taught, the lives he influenced, and the example he set continue to endure.

We will never forget.

On this Memorial Day, we remember every American service member who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. We reflect on the cost of freedom — paid by our fallen heroes in Special Operations, across our entire military and felt every day by the families they left behind.
The Memorial Valor Foundation remains dedicated to honoring the valor of our SOF brethren while walking alongside their Gold Star and Surviving families with meaningful support, resources, and community.
Their sacrifice lives on through the families we serve.
Remember. Honor. Memorialize.

Today we remember Sergeant First Class Matthew “Kyle” Evans of Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Kyle Evans lived life at full speed with passion, humor, and a deep love for the people around him. A highly decorated Green Beret who spent nearly half his life in service, Kyle once said his blood ran red, white, and blue and those who knew him would tell you he meant it. He traveled the world, fought alongside allies, and faced the harsh realities of war with unwavering courage. But beyond the uniform, Kyle was the kind of man who could light up a room with his stories, his laughter, and his unforgettable dance moves.

To his family, Kyle was everything. A devoted husband and father, he found his greatest joy in being “Dad.” His daughter changed him by bringing out a tenderness and love that defined who he was at home. He was her hero in every sense of the word. At the time of his passing, Kyle was eagerly awaiting the birth of his son, excited for the chance to teach him, guide him, and share the life he loved so much.

A teammate once said of men like Kyle, “De Oppresso Liber”, to free the oppressed, and Kyle lived that every day. He was fearless, loyal, and completely dedicated to his brothers and his mission.

On May 25, 2019, Kyle passed away peacefully in his sleep at just 33 years old. His loss was felt deeply by all who knew him, but his legacy lives on in his children, in the lives he touched, and in the foundation created in his honor to support families who walk a similar path.

We will never forget.

Today we remember Staff Sergeant Michael H. Simpson of San Antonio, Texas.

Michael Simpson was a man grounded in purpose, loyalty, and love for those around him. From the day he entered service in 2003, he carried himself with quiet strength and determination, building a career that reflected both discipline and heart. He served with distinction across multiple units before earning his place among the Green Berets with 1st Special Forces Group, an achievement that spoke to his resilience and commitment to something greater than himself.

But to those who knew him best, Michael was more than a soldier. He was a husband, a father, and a steady presence in the lives of those he loved. His wife Krista was his “compass,” and his family was the center of everything he did. Whether at home or downrange, he carried that sense of responsibility with him, always striving to be someone others could rely on.

Teammates remember Michael as dependable and selfless, the kind of man who didn’t need recognition to lead. He simply did what was right, took care of his people, and pushed forward with quiet confidence.

On April 27, 2013, Michael was severely wounded by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He later passed from his injuries on May 2, 2013.His strength, his character, and his devotion to others continue to live on in the lives he touched.

We will never forget.

Today we remember Staff Sergeant James “Jimmy” R. Patton of Vincennes, Indiana.

Jimmy Patton was the kind of leader every Ranger hopes to serve with. He was steady, confident, and fully committed to those around him. From the moment he enlisted in 2004, he carried himself with a quiet professionalism that earned the trust of his teammates and the respect of his leaders. But more than anything, Jimmy was known as the heart of his platoon, the one who could lift spirits, make others laugh, and bring energy to even the toughest days.

Those who served with him remember his ability to stay composed no matter the situation. One leader described him as someone who “made the best of every situation regardless of circumstance,” carrying an easy confidence that made others believe the mission would succeed. He led from the front, setting the example and ensuring his Rangers were prepared, disciplined, and ready for whatever came next.

Jimmy deployed seven times in support of the War on Terror, twice to Iraq and four times to Afghanistan before his final deployment. He lived a life defined by service, sacrifice, and loyalty to his brothers.

On April 18, 2010, Jimmy was killed when the helicopter he was aboard crashed during combat operations in Iraq. In the moments that followed, the Rangers he trained carried on by securing the site, evacuating the wounded, and completing the mission. His legacy lives on in them, and in the lives he touched.

We will never forget.
