For those who may not be up to date on the roofing requirements currently being actively enforced in Lafayette, LA and surrounding areas:
Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is enforcing IRC high-wind roofing requirements in areas generally south of Congress Street, including permitting, inspection, and enhanced underlayment and fastening standards.
Homeowners and contractors found out of compliance may be subject to fines of up to $150 per day until a valid permit is obtained and corrective work is approved.
Additionally, roofing projects exceeding $7,500 may only be performed by:
• State-licensed Roofing Contractors, or
• State-licensed Residential Construction Contractors
Home Improvement Contractors registered with the state are no longer permitted to perform roofing work exceeding $7,500 in contract value.
