The Ship of Life is Closed. Please go to the Partners in Progress and “like” us on that page for updates as the ministry continues. The Ship of Life page will remain up so that people can see the history and enjoy the stories and photos but no more updates will be made on this page. Come see us on the Partners in Progress page................
After celebrating the treatment of over two million patients, the Ship of Life was closed by the Cambodian Government. Retaliating against the EU, US and other Western Governments for cutting aid when they outlawed the opposition parry just prior to July elections to assure their reelection. Humanitarian organizations from any of those nations were told to leave the country or curtail their activities. Although we have been allowed to stay in the country, they closed the ship saying that "Most of the villages you serve had voted for the opposition in the past", insinuating that we somehow had influenced them to do so. We have always been non-political and have worked hard to remain neutral, but the battle is between the governments and we got caught in the middle. Health Department Officials along with Village chieftains and others, sent letters to the government asking them to allow us to continue, saying we were the only health care that the villagers had received for I0 years, but to no avail. We take comfort in knowing that we have not only provided health care but the "GOOD NEWS'' to the people from the Southern end to the far North of the nation. Everyone in t he entire country knows of the Ship of Life and the good we have done in the name of Jesus and His church. This influence will live on for years to come. We are continuing to carry on other projects: A reading club, nutritional feeding, English Bible studies, Mother-infant packets, and water purification to mention a few and now the opening of the new training center in Battambang. Give Thanks with us for the opportunities God has blessed us with and the doors that were opened by the Ship of Life.

After reading the headlines this week in the Phnom Penh Post:

Two young backpackers were found dead in a Cambodia hostel after reportedly taking medication for an upset stomach from a local pharmacy.

The Ship of Life and Partners in Progress want to ask you:

Do your missionaries have a ready resource or a contact to receive advice or assurance about health issues? Is there a health care provider the missionary is able to contact to double check their plan for treatment?

The details of this tragic news story are not published yet but it causes us to pause and think. Many countries do not have the same controls on medications or patient safety systems as in the US. We would appreciate your responses. You can PM us or comment.
