We wanted to share an update on our FREE microchipping event held this past Saturday at Petsense.
Among numerous details, there is a significant amount of planning and work that goes into putting on an event like this, and everyone involved in making it happen was a volunteer, including trained medical professionals and a local business.
It takes time to design and update webpages, create and print graphics, promote on social media, print informational handouts, organize inventory, and perform the setup in 90-degree heat. This was not a fundraising event for us; it was a FREE event dedicated to helping pet owners in our community. All the pet owners needed to do was sign up and show up. We even registered their pet for them.
We would like to thank the pet owners who signed up for our event and showed up. We began promoting this a month in advance, noting that there was a limited number of chips available and that we were taking reservations for guaranteed spots. We were pleased to meet our full capacity during the advance reservation period.
However, it was disappointing that only 27 people attended, resulting in 23 no-shows. While we understand that plans can change unexpectedly, 23 no-shows without the courtesy of a cancellation email is difficult to swallow, especially since those chips were in high demand. Those 23 spots could have been made available to others had we received notice. Twenty-three no-shows represent nearly half of the available appointments—a disappointing outcome for an event that was fully booked and supported entirely by volunteers. We can do better, Maumelle!
We would like to give a very special thank you to the The Boulevard Veterinary Clinic Veterinarian and Vet Tech for volunteering their time to perform the procedures. Thank you also to Petsense North Little Rock for allowing us to use your premises to host the event. Finally, thank you to our dedicated volunteers for your time and for braving the outdoor heat on Saturday.
