June is Homeownership Month, and in today's staff meeting we discussed how redlining has impacted our community right here in Toledo.
Decades of disinvestment have led to significant disparities in health, education, neighborhood safety, and intergenerational wealth building for our Black neighbors.
Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity is joining Habitat affiliates across the country as we work to dismantle systemic biases and create pathways to homeownership for *all* of our neighbors.
How are we doing this?
โ๏ธ Advocating for equitable policies
๐ก Repairing homes to keep community members in their homes
๐ฒ Accessing state and federal funding to reinvest in neighborhoods
โ๏ธ Providing financial education to invest in new homeowners
๐บ Strategizing our work to revitalize historically redlined neighborhoods
๐ค Learning from and partnering with incredible organizations like The Fair Housing Center who work to end housing discrimination
