Dear CCCBTU family,

This weekend marks another victory for us where President Joe Biden signed Juneteenth into a national holiday. While we celebrate this victory let’s not just look at this as a day off from work, but also make this a time to reflect on our forefathers and the struggles they endured for us to reach victory and more importantly keep in mind we still have a long way to go.

Have a safe and Happy Juneteenth weekend!

Mamie Pratt

CCCBTU would like to give a big thanks to the Chicago Federation of Labor and Illinois Labor History Society for commemorating the 50th anniversary of CBTU by showcasing a beautiful plaque at Haymarket Memorial on May 1, 2021 also known as May Day.

The chapter will like to thank our International CBTU President, Terry Melvin, and our Regional Director, Fred Redmond, for attending this monumental event. Also, the chapter will like to acknowledge Keith Richardson and Tish Taylor for orchestrating this monumental event.

CCCBTU President, Mamie Pratt, was pleased and excited to see the Chicago Chapter fellowship in person after a long year without gathering. President Mamie Pratt is looking forward to the Chicago Chapter hosting more social distance events in the future.

CCCBTU will like to give a Bday shoutout to our very own Tish Taylor! Enjoy your special day.

CCCBTU members and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the Chicago Chapter CBTU President Emeritus Robert “Bob” Simpson passed away the morning of January 6, 2021. The legacy of our beloved Bob Simpson will surely live on and his memory will forever be in the heart of the membership of CCCBTU. Leading the charge, Bob Simpson embodied a true trail blazer who paved the way for many to join the labor movement. Serving the CCCBTU for over 40 years, Bob Simpson’s leadership will be missed many times over. Please keep Bob Simpson’s family in your prayers.

Rest In Peace Bob.

Happy Thanksgiving from the CCCBTU family to yours!!!

Dear CCCBTU members and friends,

The Chicago Chapter of CBTU stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of SEIU Health Care!

As of November 23, 2020, elven Infinity nursing homes across the state of Illinois went on strike. 700+ nursing home members in these homes have been on the fronts line of this pandemic for months and have been doing God’s work, yet they are not being honored with adequate staffing, PPE or hazard pay (without condition). The standards they are fighting for are being provided at a majority of nursing homes in the state that we also represent.

CCCBTU will help lift up the fight for our amazing healthcare workers who are fighting for themselves and the residents.
