Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by chromosome 22q11.2 differences through family and professional partnerships.

The International 22q11.2 Foundation is working to empower and support families. We are campaigning for early detection and newborn screening. We are dedicated to spreading awareness. Through community events such as our annual 22q at Zoo, Worldwide Awareness Day, 22k for 22q events around the globe, and our Same Name Campaign we are bringing much needed public attention to 22q11.2 syndromes. We provide support through our global Family Support Network, professional connections, guidance and resources. We sponsor family and professional educational conferences so that families have the most up to date research available.

🧬 Did You Know? Approximately 1 in 2,000 children are missing a small piece of one copy of chromosome 22 in the 22q11.2 region.

This is known as 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, and it affects each individual differently.

Did You Know? Approximately 70% of individuals with 22q11.2 duplication syndrome inherit the duplication from a parent.

When a parent has the duplication, there is a 50% chance of passing it on with each pregnancy.

Just like 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, duplication syndrome can affect each individual differently—even within the same family.

For 23 years, the International 22q11.2 Foundation has brought parents and professionals together to provide families and caregivers with accurate, up-to-date information and support. Throughout November, we’ll highlight trusted resources, share facts, and celebrate our community!

From Light It Up Red to 22q at the Zoo – Worldwide Awareness Day, we’re raising awareness and connecting families. In 2027, we’re bringing the professionals to YOU with “Taking 22q on the Road for Families!”

Day one of learning about the latest research in has been nothing short of inspiring!

What an incredible opportunity to come together and see researchers, clinicians, advocates, and parent organizations united with one shared goal: improving the lives of individuals and families affected by 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.
