Today the Legionaires had their first annual Indepence Day ceremony at the Legion, we usually have our ceremony with the lighting of the cannon on neighborhood road…… New Traditions.

Our Commanders shared some history leading up to our Indendance from England , and read the Preamble of our American Constitution to a small gathering that included our Local Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Members of the American Legion Post 1533

Notice of some changes to be made in mastic beach ny

Mastic Beach - (Demolition dates updated below)

• This week I met with Pastor Enrique, who purchased and renovated the former Hebrew Center on Neighborhood Road. He is in contract to purchase the property at 168 Locust Drive, which was a former catering hall called Casa Giovanni (for those who remember way back when) as well the former Son’s of Italy Hall prior to that. He plans on purchasing the property and welcomes the opportunity to try and accommodate the newly reconstituted Sons of Italy Lodge in the area. His Christian Church has grown in size, but plans on keeping both locations.

We will meet with him and work to see it renovated after he closes on the property.

• the long vacant 51 Grove Street has submitted for building permits. I spoke to the attorney for the owner weeks ago and he has been working with our law department as well.

• the Town of Brookhaven will be demolishing and cleaning up 512 Riviera Drive beginning on Monday, February 27th.

• the Town of Brookhaven will be demolishing and cleaning up 51 Washington Drive on Wednesday, March 1st.
