The start of a new school year is just around the corner, and while there is plenty of excitement ahead, we know that getting back into a school routine can also bring a little anxiety for students, parents, and even our staff!
After a summer of later bedtimes, relaxed mornings, and lots of family fun, transitioning back to a school schedule can take some time. Thatβs completely okay! A little preparation now can help make those first few days feel much smoother.
Here are a few simple ways to start getting ready:
β° Ease back into a routine β Begin moving bedtime and wake-up times closer to the school schedule a little at a time.
π Get organized β Pick out school supplies, backpacks, shoes, and clothes so mornings aren't rushed.
π₯£ Practice morning routines β Start practicing getting dressed, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, and getting ready for the day.
π Bring back some learning β Reading together, practicing math facts, or simply talking about what they learned over the summer can help get those brains ready for school!
π¬ Talk about school β Ask your child how they are feeling about going back. Excitement, nervousness, and even a little worry are all normal.
β€οΈ Give lots of reassurance, remind your children that itβs okay to feel nervous and that they don't have to have everything figured out on the first day.
And parents, give yourselves some grace, too! The first few weeks are an adjustment for everyone. There may be forgotten lunches, missed alarms, tears, tired kids, and mornings that don't go exactly as planned. That's okay. We are all getting back into the rhythm together.
Our teachers and staff are preparing, our classrooms are getting ready, and we can't wait to welcome our students back! Here's to a wonderful school year filled with learning, growth, friendships, and lots of great memories!
