Jackson Township Historical Society The purpose of the Jackson Township Historical Society is to EDUCATE and PRESERVE the history of Jackson Township, Stark County, Ohio.

The purpose of the Jackson Township Historical Society is to advance, encourage, and promote the collection and preservation of records, information and artifacts pertaining to the history of the settlement and the development of Jackson Township. Jackson Center School, home of the JTHS, is a living, breathing, monument to Jackson Township’s past. The schoolhouse is open to the public for tours

throughout the year by appointment. Teachers and Scout leaders are invited to bring their classes and troops to visit Jackson Center School to learn about the history of Jackson Township. The schoolhouse holds the society’s collection of artifacts and documents. Photographs of Jackson Center School decorate the walls of the school, and other exhibits are displayed on a rotating basis. The society’s substantial collection of documents and photographs is made available to anyone who wants to conduct historical or genealogical research. JTHS hopes that local organizations and individuals will also rent the building as a meeting place and as a site for wedding and baby showers and birthday parties. Members of the society also make presentations to groups, telling the stories of Jackson Township’s past.

Were you in 4-H while growing up in Jackson Township?

The Jackson Township Historical Society is collecting photographs, ribbons, project books, fair premiums, sale bills, club record books, and stories about Jackson Township youth who participated in 4-H and the Stark County Fair. Whether you showed livestock, baked pies, sewed clothing, exhibited woodworking projects, or participated in Junior Fair activities, we'd love to help preserve this important part of our township's history.

What a great event today! We partnered with the Canton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution who presented a short program celebrating America 250! by ringing the schoolhouse bell at noon, and concluded with the firing of a 1/3 scale replica of a 1781 Revolutionary War cannon (Thank you Ron).

Jackson Township Historical Society to Host America 250! Freedom Bells Ceremony

The public is invited to attend this free community event at the Jackson Township Historical Society as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States.

The ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, July 4 at the historic Jackson Center School, located at 7756 Fulton Road, Massillon, as part of the nationwide America 250! Freedom Bells celebration honoring the 250th anniversary of July 4, 1776, the day recognized as the birth of our nation.

To commemorate this historic semiquincentennial, the Military Order of the World Wars, along with supporting organizations such as the Canton chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, is coordinating and promoting a synchronized national bell-ringing ceremony across the United States and internationally. America 250! celebrations will begin at 12:00 noon local time across the country.

At the Jackson Center School, the historic school bell will be rung promptly at noon. Following the bellringing, a brief patriotic ceremony will be held.

The ceremony will conclude with the firing of a 1/3 scale replica of a 1781 Revolutionary War cannon. The cannon will be fired as a ceremonial salute without ammunition or projectiles, providing a safe and memorable conclusion to this special anniversary observance.

Join us as we celebrate 250 years of American independence and honor the courage and sacrifices of those who founded our nation.

Christmas in July –

The Jackson Township Historical Society is honored to care for the only original one-room schoolhouse remaining in Jackson Township. Inside this historic building are thousands of photographs, documents, and artifacts that tell the story of our township. Thanks to the generosity of our community, our collection continues to grow each week as more families entrust us with preserving their treasured pieces of local history.

It is our mission to preserve both the historic schoolhouse and the artifacts in our care so they will be available for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

Preserving history requires more than shelves and storage. We use museum-quality archival supplies designed to protect these irreplaceable items from damage.
