Our Story

As one of the newest locals in the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), local 1822 was chartered on January 1, 2014, when two proud North Country local unions, one from Massena, NY (322) and other from Plattsburgh, NY (186) merged together. Although recently chartered, both come with rich history:

Local 322 - Chartered in 1954 helped work on and continues to maintain the great St. Lawrence Seaway project and Robert Moses Power Dam.

Local 186 - Chartered in 1952 has performed work for the Plattsburgh-SAC Air force Base and several other large projects in the area that are listed below.

Local 1822, while it’s main office is located in Massena has two satellite offices, one in Plattsburgh and the other in Watertown. Local 1822 has helped build the North County Region from Lowville, across the top of the state down to the Hudson River at Glensfalls, NY. Our proud members have worked on projects across the area that involved building Reynolds Aluminum, General Motors, Ayerst Laboratories, the State Colleges and Universities, the major Fort Drum expansion, the Lake Placid Olympics and the Lake Champlain Bridge to Vermont.
