I see alot of our members running down the "no kings" demonstrations. Guess they don't realize as union members they made an oath to the federation to support it. To date the federation has been stripped of bargaining rights left and right department by department, the last being the Bureau of prisons. Because of what this local views as illegal action has cut AFGE membership in half. The same brothers and sisters who stand for your rights in these demonstations nation wide. It's only a matter of time before it shows up on our doorstep. If you believe in Union values and stand with it we commend you. If you don't, that's on you when its gone. Local 1968 has always stood with union values, whether its conducting our own informational pickets for better contracts or standing with our brothers and sisters in USW, state corrections, teachers, nurses, and many more. You ask them who was there, we were! We are Union strong here at L1968 , we need everyone support or we may be the next hit on the checklist of the current administration.

May Day was born in struggle. It didn’t start with a holiday, it started with a strike. The demands of 1886 are still the same. We still fight for dignity on the job. We still fight for time with our families. We still fight to be seen as people.

See you in the streets.

Brothers and Sisters of AFGE Local 1968 tomorrow is a day of action across the U.S. in support of our Contract rights as federal employees. As well as many of us whom are veterans and receive care from the VA. We will meet at the Union hall at 11 to mobilize to the rally site at 300 Main Street in Massena. I encourage all that can join us.
I have also been in receipt of the federal court case filed on all AFGE behalf. GLS was specifically spelled out in DOT section. This is our dues hard at work on our behalf. Unfortunately FB doesn't allow document sharing in this forum but if you want a copy I can email it to you and its also available at the AFGE website.

Finally I have uploaded the new Edues flyer. Its imperative we get onboard with the uncertainty in the future of automatic allotment of dues. These dues help support the legal actions that are required for us to maintain our CBA. We are at about 25% participation as of today, I would like to double that or better by the end of next week. Any retirees wishing to join can do so also for $24 a year. Any questions reach out to EVP Condon.

Brothers and Sisters of AFGE Local 1968, with the current EO’s coming out last night it is imperative we switch dues payment through E-dues. There hasn’t been any indication that our contract will be null and void based on the EO’s but we need to be proactive. I am requesting all members go to https://join.afge.org and sign up for dues deduction there. If you are uncomfortable navigating it give George or Kristine a call any non-duty time and we will walk you through it. But if you are confident to do it on your own there are a few things to know. Number 1 make sure you select Local 1968. Second your BUS code for bargaining unit is 2679. Lastly, we don’t offer dental insurance from the local so do not select it.
I want to reassure everyone that these EO’s are illegal on their face and National is in the process of filing in federal courts backed by a multitude of Unions and their General Councils. So, when you find yourself questioning whether he is going to do away with the union, the answer is NO! We will fight them with everything in our power from the top to the bottom. I just want to make a few just for instance if we don’t fight and question our own power. Giving up could mean we loose 8 to 10 dollars an hour in pay the other is the Lock leave that we just put a pilot program in place. Think it’s bad now, just lie down and find out how bad it will be. We need all our brothers and sisters to support our efforts as you always have. I thank you for the years of solidarity and look forward to many more!
I am also assessing our Local’s legal challenges we can do because of our enabling legislation which has given us the right to bargain wages and any other issues that aren’t common in the government. I will not spell them out to show our hands to the administration but be reassured it is in the works.
I want to thank all of you for your support then and now. It doesn’t go unnoticed! I also want to thank all the local Unions for their support over the years and call on them to support us again as we do them.
Any questions or concerns call, text, fb me anytime at 315 705 9680
