Hello all!!!
Another wrestling season is upon us and another opportunity for our Mason wrestlers to unify and succeed together!!! This year we are emphasizing the extension of the middle school season and putting importance on a post-season for our middle school and J.V. athletes. Our community has always offered these opportunities, but there has been some confusion as to how this works with middle school and high school rules. We will explain below.
Opportunities:
-Enter middle school team in the MYWAY Dual Team State Championships. (1st time ever)
-Middle school athletes get 2 months extra practice time and up to 6 extra individual tournaments on top of the middle school regular season
-High school J.V. and middle school athletes can compete in regional and state MYWAY tournaments.
-Possibility of Varsity, Middle School, and Elementary all competing the same weekend on the big stage at the Dual Team Championships.
-Access to supplemental training.
-Access to all the club's coaches.
Rules & Requirements for Participation:
-All athletes must be registered with MYWAY (included in registration).
-Middle School Dual Team participants must live in the district or be enrolled in the school of choice in Mason.
-Middle School Individual Post Season
*Regionals: Must have wrestled in at least 2 MYWAY individual tournaments. Dual meets do not count. It does not matter the region if they happen Dec 1st and after.
*States: Must have placed in the top four at regionals to advance to states.
H.S. J.V. Individual Post Season
*Regionals: No prerequisites but a MYWAY card to enter regionals
*States: Must have placed in the top four at regionals
A Note to All Middle School Athletes-
You can only compete in 2 MYWAY competitions during your middle school wrestling season, which typically starts the beginning of January. We advise you to do your individual prerequisite tournaments in December so one of your allowed tournaments
during the season can be the MYWAY Team Dual State Championship. Joining MYWAY also will help fill the middle school schedule because there are typically only 3 weekend events for middle school.
Cost for registration is only $40 dollars for middle school and high school athletes to join the MYWAY group that are already competing with our school. Please note that this does not include the cost for your athlete to enroll on the actual school team, that fee is
typically $50. There are also tournament fees for each tournament ranging from$15-$20/ tournament historically. Other costs that athletes will be responsible for are uniform costs. In competition they are required at minimum wrestling shoes, wrestling
singlet or tight-fitting athletic shirt with shorts without pockets or draw strings, wrestling head gear and a mouthpiece if wrestler has braces.
Below is a brief break down of the average cost to compete in the minimum allotted tournaments to reach and compete in the post season also including the MYWAY team dual championship.
Singlet-$33 when ordered through the club
Basic wrestling shoe-$40
Basic Headgear- $25
Middle school registration- $50
MYWAY registration- $40(includes t-shirt)
Tournament fees assuming they make it to states: $90
That totals $278 for at minimum 8 weekend competitions (including middles school schedule), a whole season of middle school mon-fri practices and competition and access to 5 months of club instruction and practices.
We've revised the practice schedule. We will be adding extra days to our normal practice schedule to incorporate more coaches and hands-on technique to further the development for these age groups! If you have any questions or want to register, please go to Mason MYWA Wrestling @ Facebook or [email protected]. Please note we are still taking parent coaches that still want to help as well. Also feel free to reach out to our middle school coach Nathan Johnson and Varsity coach Brian Martel if you have questions if this is something your athlete should do.
Thank you,
MASON WRESTLING CLUB
