Mason Schools Foundation Mason Schools Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 fundraising organization supporting all Mason City Schools, taking our students above and beyond.

The Foundation's purpose is to fund activities, program and learning environments that promote academic, artistic and athletic excellence. Annually, grants are awarded to worthy programs that take all Mason students "Above and Beyond". These activities may be forging new territory in the classroom, enhancing our educators'tools or developing new spaces that foster best-in-class learning. Experiences that inspire student excellence outside the classroom may also include the arts and athletics.

🌟 Nominations are NOW OPEN for the Campbell Family Founder’s Award! 🌟

The Campbell Family Founder’s Award is Mason Schools Foundation’s most prestigious recognition, honoring a community contributor who truly goes ‘Above & Beyond’ in support of Mason City Schools.

Established in honor of Ken and Joan Campbell (pictured below) and their family, whose generosity, innovation, and vision helped lead to the creation of Mason Schools Foundation in 2008, this award celebrates individuals who embody the values of The Foundation. It recognizes those who continually go “Above & Beyond” to support Mason City Schools, whether through volunteer service or their professional work, and who help promote academic, artistic, or athletic excellence.

Each year, Mason Schools Foundation Board members select one recipient who exemplifies this spirit of extraordinary service and commitment to our students and schools.

🏆 The 2026 recipient will be recognized at halftime of the Mason High School Homecoming football game on Friday, September 25th.

💚 Who in our community goes Above & Beyond? We invite you to nominate a Mason City Schools volunteer, student, staff member, community partner, or friend who you feel deserves this special recognition.

What a night! 💚

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us Thursday for our Mason Schools Foundation CommUNITY Connect event! Whether you’re a Mason school family, educator, community partner, district leader, longtime Foundation supporter, or someone who was simply curious to learn more, we’re so glad you came! We loved hearing your stories, sharing ours, and celebrating the impact of the Foundation together.

One of our favorite parts of the evening was showing you the real stories behind the grants and seeing their impact firsthand; from innovative classroom experiences to district-wide programs and opportunities that take learning ‘Above & Beyond.’ The grants funded by the Foundation are turning great ideas into meaningful experiences for students across our schools.

Since 2008, this community has helped us invest more than $1.5 million in Mason students and educators. And Thursday night was a wonderful reminder that the impact isn’t just about the dollars invested; it’s about the people, ideas, connections, and possibilities those investments create. As we look toward our 20th anniversary in 2028, we’re excited to imagine what we can accomplish together next.

In 2008, thanks to the vision and generosity of Ken and Joan Campbell, Mason Schools Foundation was established with one purpose: to create opportunities that take Mason City Schools students ‘Above & Beyond’. Nearly two decades later, that mission is stronger than ever. And TOMORROW, we’re celebrating just how far this community has helped us come.

Mason Schools Foundation has now surpassed $1.5 million in community investment, funding innovative grants, classroom experiences, district-wide programs, and opportunities that enrich learning for thousands of Mason students.

Every dollar represents an idea brought to life.

Funding innovative grants that create meaningful learning experiences for Mason students is at the heart of what Mason Schools Foundation does. Through the generosity of our school families and community, we’re able to support ideas that go ‘Above & Beyond’ what traditional school funding can provide, bringing new opportunities, hands-on experiences, and innovative programs to students across Mason City Schools.

Join us for a CommUNITY Connect event this Thursday, August 27, from 5-7:30pm at Sonder Brewing to learn more about the impact your support can make.

The ongoing GRANT IN ACTION featured below is just one example of how Foundation funding helps turn great ideas into experiences that students can see, touch, explore, and enjoy for years to come. Other inspiring grants will also be showcased throughout the evening!

🌟 A Grant in Action Highlight 🌟

Mason Schools Foundation grants have helped bring hands-on learning to life at the Outdoor Environmental Study Area. A maple syrup evaporator allowed students from Mason Elementary, Mason Intermediate, and Mason Middle School to tap trees on-site and make their own maple syrup. A second grant funded phase one of a new trail at the south end of MECC, anchored by nine large trees planted for kindergarten teachers and students to enjoy for years to come. A third i-team grant provided raised beds, soil, and tools so 6th grade students could grow their own food. Each of these projects continues to grow, literally and figuratively, with improvements planned for this year and beyond.

We’re thrilled to announce that Mason Schools Foundation’s very own Brandon Jones, Guitarist, will be performing live classic and modern acoustic covers at our Community Connect event next Thursday, August 27!

Not only is Brandon a valuable MSF board member, he also generously donates his time and talents to numerous Foundation events as well as an incredible live acoustic performance package for our annual silent auction. 🎶🎵🎼🎸
