Big changes are on the horizon for the Haire Family!

Last-minute orders mean we’re heading to Southeast Texas this July 😳.

I’m incredibly proud of Derek and all he’s accomplishing, and I’m thrilled that our kids will finally get to know their extended family better.

It’s also SO bittersweet to leave behind the community, work, and relationships we’ve built here at the Cape—this place will always be one of our anchor homes!

Don’t worry, we’ll be back for visits so you’re not completely rid of us! 🙃

I identify as a “Purple Person” and often get asked what that means. To me, this is what it means…

Being a “Purple Person” means recognizing that no single political party has all the answers. Instead of aligning strictly with one side, it’s about blending perspectives, focusing on common ground, and making decisions based on community values rather than party loyalty. It’s about listening, learning, and working toward solutions that benefit everyone, rather than getting caught up in divisive rhetoric.

Purple People prioritize kindness, collaboration, and critical thinking. They understand that meaningful change happens when we focus on shared goals—like strong schools, safe neighborhoods, and economic opportunities—rather than party lines. It’s not about being neutral; it’s about being thoughtful, open to different viewpoints, and committed to what truly serves the community.

💜 What about you?
Do you resonate with this perspective? Does it shift how you see yourself or your role in your community? Share your thoughts below—I’d love to hear your take!

Dr. Becky at Good Inside hitting hard this morning….

“We need cooperation from others, not approval.”

As empowered, motivated, and determined as I am in life, I struggle with this.

Growing up in a family unraveling from the inside and a society where I never quite fit, I’ve always reached for belonging—even when I told myself I didn’t need it. As Brené Brown says, true belonging is the courage to STAND ALONE, while being your true self. And yet, at almost 40, I still battle this daily.

The fight between seeking approval and accepting that I don’t need it, is real. Because, more often than not, gaining approval would mean betraying myself. My needs. My truth. My lived experience.

What I’m learning is this:

The struggle doesn’t disappear, but my relationship with it can evolve. As I strengthen my self-love muscles, as I find my true voice, I realize that my space is sacred—and only those who truly see and love me belong in it. In all my intensity, my crashes, my glory.

May we stop trying to fix ourselves and instead get curious. May we accept our truths, offer them kindness, and allow our relationship with them to shift. The weight of trying to erase our genetics, our trauma, our mental health is too heavy—and when we think we have to, we give up.

But what if we stopped fighting and instead allowed?

I’ve been a thousand women. I hear them. I honor their lessons. And I thank them for the bones that now make me.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of spending the day with State Rep. David T. Vieira, exploring ways to increase civic engagement, especially among my peers, and inspiring families and parents to show up, get active, and recognize their power to impact their own lives and the lives of their children. We discussed practical steps for improving the food served in schools, advocating for fresh, healthy meals, and celebrated the rich history of Massachusetts. It was an honor to be guided by a generous, passionate, and creative thinker who truly serves people and communities with his heart.

I’m deeply grateful to have shared this experience with a good friend and for the opportunity created through Band Together for Inclusion, facilitated and hosted by the incredible Marie Younger Blackburn.

In a time when both our local communities and the world at large are facing significant challenges, it was refreshing and hopeful to witness leaders who genuinely care, listen, and fight for the preservation of our true history and a brighter future.

Now, I challenge you: Show up. Participate. Speak out—not just on online platforms, but in real life. Attend meetings, engage in productive conversations, and be willing to bridge gaps. It’s easy to default to anger, judgment, and division, but real solutions come from intentional, peaceful dialogue. Let’s move forward with energy, purpose, and collaboration, creating lasting change in our homes, schools, and communities.

Together, we can make a difference—one conversation, one action, one step at a time.

Reflecting on this week’s events, I feel a profound heaviness.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work is often narrowly viewed through the lenses of gender, race, and immigration status. While these are crucial aspects, DEI encompasses so much more. It’s about socioeconomic status, family structures, mental health, overcoming trauma, and ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to redefine their narratives.

As the daughter of immigrants, raised by a white family devastated by poverty and addiction, I didn’t experience what many refer to as “merit” until my early thirties. Unlike peers from stable, middle-class, two-parent households, I couldn’t participate in high school sports or clubs. Instead, I juggled three jobs to keep the lights on, put food on the table, and maybe afford a prom dress on sale.

It’s disheartening to see the stories of countless immigrants devalued by narratives that focus solely on negative stereotypes, as if we don’t have just as many “bad” Americans. Research indicates that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than native-born citizens.

DEI is about giving people like me an even chance—for our hard work and merit to be recognized equally, despite lacking the parental support that others might have had in their development.

This week has been heavy and daunting, but there’s work to be done. Find rest and grace where you can. Cherish the small joys of safety and love we have. Prepare to speak out, stand up, and face criticism and harsh judgment. Stay steadfast and hold onto the people doing the same work.

🌟 Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - Small Acts, Great Impact 🌟

Dr. King reminds us:
“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

Let this be our daily call to action. It’s not about waiting for grand gestures or perfect opportunities. It’s about showing up every day with love, justice, and equality in mind.

Whether it’s a kind word, standing up against injustice, teaching our children to embrace diversity, or taking time to listen and support others—these small actions, done with great intention, create lasting change.

We honor Dr. King’s legacy by committing to these small, meaningful acts. Together, they pave the way for a world built on dignity, respect, and unity.
