Smoky Mountain Ani-Meals on Wheels

Ani-Meals is a program of Smoky Mountain Meals on Wheels & supports services such as food & home care for our seniors loved pets.

Ani-Meals on Wheels was formed because of necessity. Many seniors struggle to care for their loved pets whether it due to finance or accessibilty of food and/or veternarian services. The obvious benefits of a relationship with the well being of the seniors and pets directly coralates with the mission of Meals on Wheels. We converted an old shed on the property of Smoky Mountain Meals on Wheels to

be the home of Ani-Meals. A solar attic fan, solar lights, a bit of paint and trim and we have the largest dog house in the Smoky Mountains. Banfield Charatable Trust along with Meals on Wheels America provided a base to start services for Ani-Meals. Since May of 2014 we have received over $6500 and 4 tons of pet food. In September of 2015 we have secured a local Dr of Veternary Medicine to make house calls. Ani-Meals will be scheduling annual visits to ensure all pets are current on shots and over all well-being is checked. Ani-Meals is a volunteer based program and relies on community support, grants and donations to operate. Our mascot animals are Fillup the dog and Fillmore the cat

We know that our Mr. Mitch Brooks is sitting on his heavenly bench, probably sitting with a lapful of purring cats and happily petting wagging-tailed dogs, as he looks over three of his favorite, fellow animal loving peps, Claire, Dave and Kathy! His incredible wife, Mrs. Kathy, has forever improved our Animeals Shed with a memorial “Mitch’s Bench” that gives a place for rest, reflection, chatting and laughter for the Animeals Team.

A message from Maci, who represents all the Animeals pets who were so near and dear to Mitch’s heart, may you always find time to sit, ponder and make a positive pawprint in life as Mr. Mitch always did!

Due to continued and anticipated poor weather conditions, meal delivery will be cancelled for tomorrow. Be safe on the icy roads, driveways and porch steps!

For the safety of our incredible staff, Blount County Community Action Agency, Inc. will be closed tomorrow. We look forward warmer temps and regular business operations on Monday!

For the safety of our staff and volunteers, the Blount County Community Action Agency, Inc. will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The Smoky Mountain Meals on Wheels program will be open and resume meal delivery on Thursday (18th).

If you are a weekly (frozen) Meals Delivery Driver and normally deliver on Tuesday and Wednesday, please email Tammye at [email protected] and let her know if you would be able to reschedule and deliver your regular route for either this Thursday or Friday.

Tears and sadness have taken a "pawse" and turned to the joyous celebration of Mr. Mitch Brooks' life today. Hundreds of pets in the Animeals on Wheels Program send wet licks, gentle purrs and wagging tails...thank you for caring about us, thank you for feeding us and thank you for making our lives better. We love you as much as you loved us.
