Happy Veterans Day!

Today, leaders of our community dedicated an Ohio Historical Marker to commemorate Colonel Herman C. Doellinger Ohio National Guard Armory.

The armory was the first of its kind in Ohio, and construction was completed in 1911. It was home to Company E of the 4th Ohio Infantry Regiment and was later redesignated as part of the 166th Infantry Regiment. The company served in both World Wars.

Colonel Herman C. Doellinger served the 4th Regiment and the 37th Infantry Division from 1907 to 1943. On Memorial Day 1971, the armory was rededicated and named in his honor.

The Voice from the Stone program has been moved to the Veterans Auditorium, 233 West Sixth St., on Sunday at 2 pm due to upcoming inclement weather.

Nacrina Alveraz-Blanco will sing the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Grace Keiderling, and Pastor Barry Haigh, a Veteran of the United States Air Force, will offer the invocation and benediction.

The guest speaker will be Tracy Richardson, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and a U.S. Army Veteran. She is currently the State Representative for Ohio District 86, which covers Union and Marion Counties. She will speak on the honor of being a Veteran and serving our nation.

The "Voice From the Stone" honorees this year are Samuel and Levi Millington, killed in action during the Battle of Shiloh in the Civil War. They served alongside their father, Otis, in the 46th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and he was present at their deaths. Through them, we honor all those whose names are on the monument, especially those who served and died during the Civil War, on this, the 160th Anniversary of its end.

All are encouraged to attend this meaningful program as we honor all our Veterans.
