Marysville 2020

Marysville 2020 Marysville 2020 (say 20/20) is an informal coalition of folks who share a new vision for the future of this historic California city. There are no dues.

We're volunteers who are working together to revitalize our town by the year 2020. Email:[email protected] Marysville 2020 is open to everyone with a sincere interest in making Marysville a better place to live, work and do business. To give us some cash to buy domain names, acquire public records, pay fees, etc., we decided to each make a one-time (NON tax-deductible) contribution of -- wh

at else -- twenty bucks. But if you cannot afford the $20, don't let that keep you from getting involved.

There are many in Marysville that are unaware of the details of this project since it was put through in phases. I think most folks were in favor of improvements but are unaware that a 5 lane proposal was added after the 3 lane project improvements. Please help get the word out so Marysville residents have a chance to have a say in this. Comment letters are due by November 4th. If you’d like to help distribute flyers please contact Tom Galvin. You may email him at [email protected] or call him at (567) 202-0690.

ARE YOU READY FOR MORE TRAFFIC?

Caltrans’ plans for State Route 70 into & through Marysville:

Brings 5 lanes of traffic from Oroville into Marysville.

That will bring 5,000 more vehicles every day into town.
(Remember the congestion when just 1,000 dump trucks a day from the Paradise Camp Fire were going through town?)

Creating another 4,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), adding more air & noise pollution right at Marysville High School & the athletic fields.

With no plans for routing that extra traffic through town. Forcing traffic to choose neighborhood streets as alternative routes.

In a disaster (like the Oroville Dam crisis), Marysville is not a safe evacuation route—it’s a chokepoint and becomes a parking lot (plan will add 2 more stoplights to route). Residents could become trapped. Evacuees trapped in their vehicles north of town in District 10 would be 13 feet under water if the Feather River levee broke there.

The 5-lane plans will wipe out the Youth Center and Yuba-Sutter Transit Facility (across from the high school).

The plans may also wipe out the VFW Hall, 7 small businesses along B Street and/or homes on the north end of Ellis Lake.

Caltrans admits a bypass around Marysville will still be needed after this $540 million Oroville to Marysville Corridor is built--$111 million of taxpayer money for just the
½-mile segment in Marysville.
We need YOU to fight this plan. Learn how at

COMMENT LETTERS NEEDED NOW! If you live or work in Marysville you will want to know about this revised Hwy 70 project. Do you think traffic is bad now through our town? If this revised project is completed (instead of 3 lanes it is now 5 lanes) we could have an additional 5000 vehicles a day driving through Marysville. Marysville is being taken advantage of and our traffic problem should be fixed before more traffic is brought through). CalTrans EIR is now available and doesn't even address the traffic issue the project will worsen. For more information go to Keep70Safe page and send private message.

KEEP 70 SAFE MEETING
Tues., Sept 22
6 pm
Veteran's Park - Marysville
(6th Street Side - between
G & H Streets)

Yuba County and Marysville Citizens are meeting tomorrow at 6pm in Veteran’s Park for the “Keep 70 Safe “ Group” to share an update as to what work the group has done and how the widening of highway 70 to five lanes will impact Marysville. Caltrans has not given definitive plans as to where and how vehicles will be traveling through Marysville. As we know it will most likely be even more traffic through our neighborhoods! Neighbors have come together in legal action to slow or stop this project until the issues of traffic into Marysville have been addressed. Caltrans environmental report did not even address the issue of traffic through Marysville on this project. If you have concerns please attend this meeting to learn more.

Here is the concept Citizens want to bring to the 5th Street design. They've altered plan from 3 lane to 4 lane. Give it a watch, take a walk down 5th Street, or pull over and check it out then come voice your opinion after you watch the video.

What’s a road diet? Quite simply, traffic-calming expert Dan Burden told Streetfilms, “A road diet is anytime you take any lane out of a road.” The…

Since there has been citizen’s interest and inquiries as to when- City events, Parks, and the 5th Street Design items they will be discussed at City Council Meeting, I’m posting information for Council Meeting Tomorrow. Each of these interests are on tomorrow evening's City Council Meeting. I’ve also been getting many people asking me “What the heck is Complete Streets?” Therefore I’ve attached some information(if you’d like more post it) that I was just emailed over that gives a clearer picture (in fact there are pictures!).

Complete street link information: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z25j95RA8JKA06przg8cPN63dr9nbjpn/view?usp=sharing

I’ve also learned that since Citizens received new information (at the May 14th Council Meeting) that the design had to be 4 lanes to be able to make deadline of June 6th and after listening to all concerns from public meetings that they have a 4 lane option that incorporates concerns. They are trying to get this option heard but due to the shortness of time it makes it challenging. Feel free to share information.

Meeting begins at 6pm at City Hall upstairs (There is an elevator), 526 C Street, However these items are farther down the agenda therefore they won’t get to early in the meeting and feel free to come in at any time and stay for however long you can or want.

To see the back up to each item click on this link: https://go.boarddocs.com/ca/com/Board.nsf/Public
The agenda will come up on the left side of your screen and then click on the item you want more information. That item will appear in middle and right of your screen. Then you can click on the pdf files that are available on that subject.

It is exciting when our community gets involved! We love it!! A REMINDER:
This Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers upstairs will be the Presentation to the City Council regarding the “Citizens Alternative” for the 5th Street Redesign. The Presentation will be right at the start of the meeting so it’s important to not be too late or you may miss it!!
