Why do people choose Marysville?

Because this is a community where businesses don't have to do it alone.

Here, entrepreneurs find partners. Employees build careers. Organizations work together to attract investment. Residents support local businesses. Community events bring thousands of people downtown. Historic buildings are preserved, new ideas are welcomed and success is celebrated.

None of that happens by accident.

It happens because people here believe in investing in their community and investing in the future.

That's what makes Marysville a great place to start a business, grow a business, build a career and call home.

Marysville means business.

Community After Hours is Wednesday, June 17, from 5-6:30 p.m., and this one starts with the good stuff.

Head to Marysville Mercantile, 908 Elm Street, first. That’s where dessert is waiting and where the party starts.

Then we’re spilling onto Elm Street. The block between Ninth Street and Tenth Street will be closed so there’s room for games, activities, dessert and all the conversations that start with, “I haven’t seen you in forever.”

And don’t stop there. Wander over to the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art for more treats, art and hands-on fun.

This is for everybody. Kids. Adults. Families. Friends. New faces. Familiar faces. Dessert people. Art people. Game people. Downtown people.

Start with dessert. Stay for the fun.

We Need Volunteers for July 4th on Broadway!

Here's the deal: We have the foam party, bounce houses, mural mosaic unveiling, hot dog eating contest, live music, bingo and fireworks. We have the activities. We have the plan.

Now we need the people who help make it happen.

We're looking for volunteers to work one-hour shifts between 4-9 p.m. on July 4. That's it — one hour helping with activities, greeting visitors or keeping the celebration running smoothly, and then you're free to enjoy the rest of the evening.

If you've ever said, "Someone should help with that," this is your chance to be that someone. 😉

To volunteer, contact Paige at [email protected] or 785-562-3101.

Wake Up Wednesday is this Wednesday, June 10, at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art.

Stop by between 7:30-8:30 a.m. for coffee, breakfast sweets and a chance to be part of Marysville's Mural Mosaic project. You can paint a tile that morning or take a tile home to paint and return later. The finished mural will be unveiled during July 4th on Broadway.

While you're there, take time to explore the Joe Oswalt exhibition. His work captures the landscapes, landmarks and character of northeast Kansas, and it's a great opportunity to see one of the region's most talented artists.

One more reason to start your Wednesday in Marysville!

We're nuts about the volunteers and committee members who make Big Blue River Days happen. What looks like a two-day festival on the calendar is really the result of months of planning, phone calls, meetings, emails and problem-solving.

Their commitment, energy and pride in this community are what turn an idea into one of Marysville's signature events. For that, we're nuts about them.

Add this to your Big Blue River Days morning.

Stop by the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art, 201 S. 9th St., and paint a tile for the mural mosaic that will be unveiled during July 4th on Broadway.

April Spicer will be there to lead the project and help you get started, so don’t overthink it. Come in, paint a tile and be part of something fun for Marysville.

They’ll be there until noon today.

Think Big Blue River Days is just cars?

Think again.

Saturday's lineup includes a sauce contest where the public picks the winner, a kids zone, food trucks, live music, pickleball, a historic walking tour, Poker Run throughout downtown and plenty of reasons to spend the day in Marysville.

You can sample sauces, listen to a band, let the kids burn off some energy, learn a little local history and still make it back in time to see the cars.

That's what makes Big Blue River Days fun — there's something different around every corner.

Think you've got a winning hand?

The Big Blue River Days Downtown Poker Run starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and gives you the perfect excuse to explore downtown Marysville while the festival is in full swing. Pick up your Poker Run sheet at Reflections Hallmark, 901 Broadway, then visit participating businesses to draw cards and build your best five-card poker hand.

Here's the fun part: you don't have to be lucky to win. Prizes will be awarded for the best hand, the worst hand and one lucky draw winner. Each winner will receive $30 in OneMarysville Money.

The Poker Run is just one piece of Big Blue River Days, which takes over downtown Marysville Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6, with classic cars, barbecue, pickleball, food trucks, music, kids activities and plenty of reasons to spend time downtown.

Grab a scorecard Saturday morning and see where the cards take you.

Big Blue River Days has something growing in every corner of downtown.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Megin Jacques with K-State Extension will share practical ideas for creating beautiful summer planters during "Thriller, Filler, Spiller: Care and Design Tips for Summer Planters" at the Koester House Gardens.

Whether you're working with a front porch pot, patio containers or flower displays around the yard, you'll pick up tips on choosing plants, combining colors and keeping planters looking their best all summer long.

It's one more thing happening during a Saturday packed with classic cars, barbecue, pickleball, shopping, entertainment and activities throughout downtown Marysville.
