Four years ago today, the Buckeye Wing held it's first, official meeting. Seven enthusiastic, motivated Colonels without a plane, a home or a plan. But we had a vision for all. In those four years, we achieved our charter in only 90 days. We received the Queen Mother two months later. Started our hangar campaign in 2024. Now we have an APPROVED land lease to build our home! Permitting is ongoing and we hope to break ground in May-June and open in October. We are participating (static) at both the Dayton and Columbus Airshows as well as numerous aviation events throughout the Buckeye state.

From Marysville Matters: New T-hangar opens at Union County Airport

The Union County Airport marked a major milestone Friday with the ribbon cutting of a new 15-unit T-hangar — the first new construction at the airport since 2009.

Airport Authority Vice President Philip LaPointe told attendees the project is about more than doors and concrete.

“This isn’t just about opening a new 15-unit T-hangar,” he said. “It’s about strengthening a community asset that supports local pilots, aviation businesses, and the economic vitality of our region.”

The $1.9 million project has been five years in the making. It was funded through grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Aviation Division, along with an ODOT loan and airport funds.

The hangar is fully rented and will house 15 general aviation aircraft, bringing the total number of planes based at the airport to 85. Officials estimate it will generate about $65,000 annually in direct revenue.

LaPointe thanked the airport board, engineering consultant Wolpert, general contractor 2K General, and the pilots and tenants “who bring life to this airport every day.”

“Aviation is not just part of our past,” he said. “It’s a vital part of our future.”

Congratulations to CAF Colonel Kevin Korterud, 2025 recipient of the Lloyd P Nolen Award. It was a privilege to present the award and and honor to have him serve as the Buckeye Wing Finance Officer.

What a great way to finish the flying season at our home, the Union County Airport - KMRT, Marysville, Ohio, Oktoberfest Fly-In, last Saturday, October 4th. Great fun, food, and airplanes! Thanks to all the members who volunteered to set-up/tear down, man our booth and sell the drinks! Until Oktoberfest 2026, always the first Saturday in October (October 3rd, 2026)!
