KENYA DIASPORA FOR KENYA - OUR COUNTRY NEEDS US
Dear Fellow Kenyans in the Diaspora,
We write to you with heavy hearts, compelled by the tragedy that has unfolded in our beloved country. More than 60 brave young patriots have been martyred by the state, with over 200 more assaulted—many of them shot with bullets—for the simple act of standing against a punitive government finance bill. These atrocities have left families devastated, communities in mourning, and our nation's conscience shaken.
This is not just a call for support; it is a call for justice. We need your help to hold this government accountable and to seek justice for the dead and those who have suffered. Your contributions will go directly to assist the families of the fallen, advance legal proceedings, and mobilize all democratic forces in Kenya to fight for a better future for us all.
WHAT: Kenyans abroad are coming together to offer financial support to those on the ground for two critical purposes:
1. To provide humanitarian aid that upholds the basic dignity of our fellow citizens as they fight for a reformed Kenya.
2. To fund civic education programmes that will empower our people to demand the democratic reforms our country so desperately needs.
WHY: The recent events in Kenya have resonated deeply with many across the globe. We share the vision of economic justice and institutional accountability, grounded in the recognition of human dignity as enshrined in our Constitution: "Every person has inherent dignity and the right to have that dignity respected and protected" (Kenya Constitution, Article 28).
HOW: Every penny counts. KDA-USA is working in partnership with credible organizations in Kenya that will manage the distribution of essential supplies—such as water, food, and blankets—and oversee civic education programmes to empower our people. This is our moment to stand up for Kenya. Your country needs you now more than ever.
