There are multiple signs posted around our property stating Please Do Not Leave Donations Outside. Unfortunately, items continue to be left on our sidewalks and around the building after hours.

When this happens, it creates several problems:

• It becomes a safety concern for our staff and volunteers, as people often sort through items left overnight.

• Donations can become damaged, scattered, or broken before we ever receive them.

• Food left outside cannot be distributed because we have no way of knowing whether it has been exposed to heat, weather, pests, or tampering. For the safety of our clients, those items must be discarded.

• It creates unnecessary cleanup and takes valuable staff time away from serving families.

If you arrive when we are closed, we simply ask that you return another time rather than leaving items outside.

Items left on our sidewalks or around the building after hours are considered illegal dumping and may be subject to prosecution.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, clean facility and ensuring that every donation can be put to good use.

This week’s rbs news now business spotlight features the Community Storehouse, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, highlighting a milestone of providing more than 3 million meals to those in need.

The nonprofit’s Uptown department store is located at 128 E. Church St., Martinsville, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Community Storehouse also accepts furniture donations and consignments through its furniture pickup program.
