We want to thank Morgan County Government and Intera for letting SWCD staff assist with water quality testing that was recently done across Morgan County. This water quality testing will allow us to start evaluating the areas of water quality that we want to focus on and give us a baseline record to track seasonal and environmental changes.

Reminder that our nature journaling program is still set for TONIGHT at Burkhart Creek Park!!!

We had to reschedule it from a couple of weeks ago, but tonight is looking much less toasty. We may get sprinkled on, but we have a lovely shelter house to retreat into to journal!

Bring your own art supplies if you have them, but basic supplies will be provided otherwise!

See you there!

Itโ€™s that wonderful time of year when North Americaโ€™s largest fruit is ripening!

If youโ€™ve never had one, their flavor is best described as a cross between a mango and a banana, with some melon-like notes.

When harvesting, be sure to only pick the fruits that are ripe (if you can easily indent them with your fingers, and they easily fall off the branch when shaken), as they do not continue to ripen off the tree.

The yellow flesh is delicious, but be sure to avoid eating the green skin and to eat around the large seeds.

Did you know that this tree is the only plant that zebra swallowtail caterpillars can eat? Without these trees, we would not have these iconic butterflies in our forests!

These trees are quite common in our forests here in Indiana, but they inconsistently fruit due to their inability to self-pollinate and are only pollinated by carrion flies and beetles in early spring.

Pawpaws are quite the treat! Have you ever tried one?
