🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Walking Our Way to a Healthier Morgan County! 💚

October is Children’s Health Month, and we're celebrating by highlighting our recent National Walk to School Day!

A few weeks ago, Newby and Northwood students, staff, MHS JROTC, and Pioneer Pete came together for a fun morning of walking and community connection!

The Morgan County Health Department was proud to help coordinate this event alongside the Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department - Indiana, Mooresville Schools and IU Health

💚 Thank you to everyone who participated! Events like these encourage physical activity, healthy habits, and stronger communities—one step at a time! 👟

Head and neck cancer can sometimes develop without noticeable symptoms. Other signs may include a sore throat that does not go away, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness or voice changes, red or white patches in the mouth, nonhealing sores, lumps or swelling, or unusual bleeding from the mouth or nose. These symptoms can have many causes, but persistent changes are worth discussing with a health professional.

The screening is free, walk-ins are welcome, and pre-registration is available through the QR code on the graphic. Help us spread the word by sharing this post with a friend, family member, or neighbor who may benefit.

Everyone deserves health information and care that they can find, trust, understand, and use.
💡Personal health literacy means having the confidence to:
✅ Navigate the healthcare system, insurance, and appointments
✅ Ask questions when something isn’t clear
✅ Read, write, and share your health information
✅ Be involved in care decisions and management
✅ Identify what matters most to you and express your needs
✅ Find reliable sources of health information and support
✅ Recognize that health literacy is also an organizational responsibility
Health literacy isn’t just about information—it’s about empowerment.
When you feel confident managing your health, you can make better decisions, ask better questions, and achieve better outcomes.

A special thank you to our Morgan County Health Department nurses for their dedication and training to lead our A Matter of Balance program!

We have a wonderful group of participants in our current class working to improve their strength, build confidence, and reduce their risk of falls while staying active and independent.

👏 A big thank you to Life Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene in Mooresville for hosting our classes and supporting healthier aging in Morgan County!

Did you know that a breast lump isn't the only sign of breast cancer?

Breast cancer awareness starts with knowing the signs, understanding your risk factors, and taking steps to protect your health. 💗

🔎 Know the Signs: Changes in breast size or shape, ni**le discharge, skin irritation, redness, swelling, or breast pain can all be reasons to talk with your healthcare provider.

💗 Understand Your Risk: While some risk factors, such as age, genetics, and family history, cannot be changed, healthy lifestyle choices may help lower your risk.

🌸 Take Action: Stay physically active, maintain a healthy weight, know your family health history, and talk with your healthcare provider about recommended screenings.

Early detection matters! Being familiar with your breasts and keeping up with recommended screenings can make a difference.

👏 A special thank you to the Indiana Department of Health for sharing these important breast cancer awareness resources and helping educate Hoosiers about breast health!

Together, we can raise awareness and encourage healthier communities across Morgan County. 💕
