FROM ANIMAL CONTROL TO FOREVER HOME — DOUGLAS’ STORY
Look at these two pictures of Douglas.
The first is when Douglas was found as a stray and trapped. The second is Douglas in his new forever home. And the story in between these two pictures is one we will never forget. Douglas was trapped in November 2025. He spent 10 MONTHS at Animal Control. Let that sink in. Ten months.
After losing the family he once knew—good or bad, we simply don't know—Douglas was left to roam the streets, trying to survive. Eventually, he found himself at Animal Control, where he waited… and waited… and waited. And then came the news no dog should ever have to face.
Douglas was on the euthanasia list for this week. 💔
But sometimes, a little bit of love and a whole lot of hope can change everything.
Rescue Me WV held an adoption event at Animal Control. Douglas got a bath. He got some love. He got attention. And, most importantly, someone saw HIM.❤️
A family came to the event and spent time with Douglas. They didn't look past him because he had been at the shelter for 10 months. They saw a dog who needed a family. And they decided Douglas needed to be part of theirs. Douglas is now HOME
And Douglas wasn't the only success story from this adoption event! Several wonderful dogs connected with families who saw their potential and gave them the chance they deserved. This is why we continue to encourage anyone looking for a family dog, a best friend, or their forever companion to PLEASE consider your local Animal Control.
There are incredible dogs sitting in shelters who didn't choose what happened to them. They may have been surrendered, lost, abandoned, or simply experienced circumstances completely outside of their control. You could literally save a life.
