YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS THIS! Tuesday evening Aug. 26th at 7 pm at the Hunter Martin Settlement Museum, Dr. Andrea Lynn Smith, a professor at Lafayette College, will be our guest speaker. She will be discussing her book, Memory Wars: Settlers and Natives Remember Washington’s Sullivan Expedition of 1779. Doors will be open at 6:30 pm ET if you’d like to come early and look around. Dr. Smith will have a few copies of her hardback book on hand and at a discount price if anyone would like to purchase. A monthly meeting will follow immediately after the speaker.

An American Revolution Soldier, John Deats (aka Johannes Dietz) is buried in the cemetery next to our museum. His service included the following: "he joined Sullivan's Expedition against the Indians. He served from May, 1779 until the following fall, a period of about five months, under Captain Paul Shipman of Greenwich, New Jersey. He had crossed the Delaware River at Easton where he drew some clothes: one pair of overall pantaloons, one pair of shoes, and one shirt. He then marched to Wilkes-Barre where he first met General Sullivan, as well as Generals Hand, Poor, and Maxwell." ~ credited from the blog named “who's your grammie” on blogspot.

Welcome! We are back to begin our 2025 Season!

TONIGHT! Tuesday May 27th. We look forward to seeing members at the Hunter-Martin Settlement Museum opening Seasonal meeting. Doors will be open at 6:30 pm. Meeting begins at 7 pm.

The Hunter Martin Museum has a beautiful new look inside. Last fall members contributed over 100 volunteer hours to document and curate our entire collection as well as taking pictures of
every item. You will be amazed with the fresh new look. Many thanks to Jen Carnicelli, Holly Hutchison, Karen Schoepple, Cindy Smith and Marie Tarsi who have done excellent work sprucing everything up in the building. Thanks also to Will Mann who put up new display shelves and whose assistance was invaluable in helping us create the new display show casing many service organizations in the area.

The Hunter-Martin Settlement Museum is in a school house built in 1803 on lands settled circa 1734 in Martins Creek, PA.

Dig in to the Settlement of Martins Creek, PA and Lower Mount Bethel. Find your roots and learn about your family history. We are always welcome to new members!

WELCOME! Mark your calendar to attend the Hunter-Martin Settlement Museum on June 25th, 2024 at 7:00 pm EST. Our Speaker for this Month's program is Kay Wolff, a Director on the Board of the Friends of Historic Easton Cemetery. She will present a slide show on the rich history and notable points of interest in the cemetery like their historic chapel and mausoleum, George Taylor, signer of the Declaration of Independence, Traill Green, founder of the Easton Cemetery, a medal of honor recipient from the Civil War, and the founders of Lafayette College. We may even realize some commonality between the Easton Cemetery and the Scotch-Irish Cemetery next to the museum.

We look forward to having Kay and seeing all of you on June 25th, 2024 7:00 pm EST at the Hunter-Martin Settlement Museum. All are welcome. You do not need to be a member to hear kay's presentation. Note to members - There will be a membership meeting to follow directly after Kay Wolff's Presentation.

Check out the painting below of George Transue, the great-great-great grandfather of Friends of Historic Easton Cemetery board president Amy Wolff who is Kay's daughter. Transue was superintendent of the cemetery from 1883 to 1914, and was the first to live in the superintendent's house after it was built in 1900. (The painted image below courtesy of Amy Wolff.)
