Billionaires don’t need tax cuts. But that’s what they got with Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. And that tax cut came at the expense of California hospitals. If we don’t act, hundreds of hospitals in the state could close, millions could lose healthcare.

It’s time to and vote YES on Prop 40 and NO on Props 41 and 42.

Almost 1 in 10 jobs in the Bay Area is in the manufacturing sector. But are these good jobs? For most blue-collar workers, the answer is no: their median wage is only $24.50; less than a third of production workers in the Bay Area are paid a living wage. The impact of poor wages is especially felt by workers of color and immigrants, who make up the vast majority of all production workers in the region. Read more in our new report "Making it in the Bay," which provides a comprehensive analysis of the Bay Area’s manufacturing labor market. https://laborcenter.berkeley.edu/making-it-in-the-bay/
As policymakers and others consider strategies to promote manufacturing in the Bay Area, it is essential to take into account job quality and equity challenges in the sector. Good jobs don’t happen by accident: creating quality jobs requires intentional strategies to grow a high-road sector that supports long-term investments in workers and labor-management partnership. Learn more about high-road strategies to grow manufacturing in the Bay Area through our work with the Bay Area High Road Manufacturing Initiative (https://wpusa.org/bahrmi/)

An overview of job quality and equity in existing manufacturing employment in the Bay Area, identifying challenges and strategies for cultivating a high-road manufacturing sector.

Thank you Rep. Josh Harder for having an East County Union roundtable. It was a great discussion with teachers, electricians, boilermakers, and machinists.

It’s the workers who make our local economy run. And we are excited to share our experiences with local policymakers.

More than 2,000 Contra Costa County Teamsters are poised to walk off the job after voting by over 90% to authorize a strike if a new agreement cannot be reached. Contra Costa County Teamsters work in over 250 classifications, serving the public throughout the County in health services, general services and maintenance, and licensed vocational nursing and aides.
The overwhelming strike authorization vote, which had unprecedented participation, comes after months of negotiations wherein Teamster members have urged the County to adopt a fair compensation structure that prioritizes equity and values the people that provide critical services to the community. The Teamsters contract expired on June 30, 2026.
“Contra Costa County has consistently lagged behind neighboring jurisdictions when it comes to compensation,” said Matt Finnegan, Teamsters 856 Director of Public Services and Chief Negotiator. “We are simply asking the County to implement a long-term plan to address these inequities to ensure that the best qualified employees can afford to continue to serve the public in the County they love.”
Negotiations with the County are set to resume on July 28, 2026.
“We’re hopeful that the County administration has heard us loud and clear and we will reach an agreement that addresses our concerns and averts a strike that would impact services countywide,” said Finnegan.
