U A Local#159 Plumbers and Steamfitters

U A Local#159 Plumbers and Steamfitters United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 159 The local unions are located in all of the 50 states of America and every province of Canada.

Local 159 was founded on April 3rd, 1915 in Martinez, California. 90 years later, our offices are still headquartered in Martinez where we have our union hiring hall, Journeymen and Apprentice Training facility and assembly hall. With over 650 members and over 100 union contractors, we provide skilled plumbers, steamfitters, HVAC Refrigeration technicians and service plumbers for work in Contra Co

sta County and beyond. Currently there are over 300 local unions in the United Association, with in excess of 340,000 members. Members are free to travel from one local area to another to satisfy the needs of local work conditions. Founded in 1889, the United Association is one of the most respected and influential building trades unions in the U.S. and Canada today. It serves as a collective voice for workers through negotiation and collective bargaining with employing contractor groups, such as the Mechanical Contractors Association of America, and the National Association of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors. The UA is also a key member of the Building and Construction Trades Department, the AFL-CIO, and the Canadian Federation of Labour.

When we roll together, we can do great things and a fine example of that was the recent Bocce Ball Tournament for the Central Labor Councils Hardship Fund. It was a day of great brotherly and sisterly camaraderie, great bbq, and a fun game of Bocce Ball. Big thanks to all of our 159 apprentices that volunteered their time to serve food for the event and an even bigger thank you to our Apprenticeship Coordinator Brian Lescure that manned the bbq. I am happy to say that 1 of our Local 159 teams finished 2nd place and the other losing a close 3rd place match to finish 4th. Thank you Contra Costa Central Labor Council for putting on such a great event that brought a lot of brothers and sisters together in one place!

Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 159 proudly endorses Measure G on the June 2 Contra Costa ballot. The Contra Costa Community College District contributes $2.3 billion annually to our local economy and supports nearly one in 25 local jobs. Measure G will modernize campuses and expand career training programs that feed directly into our regional workforce. We encourage our members and networks to vote YES.

This is a late post. They say strength in numbers and solidarity is how you get things done. On March 10th the Bridgehead Industrial project, which is covered by a PLA, went before the Oakley City Council for a pretty contentious meeting and heavy opposition from the community. It wasn't just the members of UA Local 159 that showed up for this one. As you can see in the pictures there were several members of other construction trades unions that showed up and we all stood together in solidarity. A big thanks to our members that stuck it out until close to 1am to hear the final vote of 4-1 in favor of the project. Another big thank you to Oakley City Councilmembers Anissa Williams, Shannon Shaw, Aaron Meadows, and Mayor Hugh Henderson for their support of 3.4 million square feet of construction. This means jobs!! Good paying Union Construction jobs for our members! Let's get to work Local 159!
