A Statement from the Floyd County Homeless Shelter, Inc. Board of Directors
For many years, Dance for Shelter has brought people together in support of our community, creating wonderful memories and providing meaningful support for the work of the Floyd County Homeless Shelter.
As we reflect on those years, we want to express a heartfelt thank you to Mickey McGuire for the time, energy, creativity, and dedication he has given to helping make past our past Dance for Shelter events possible. We are genuinely grateful for his efforts, as well as those of every dancer, volunteer, sponsor, donor, and community member who has played a part in the event’s history. Those contributions have meant a great deal to our shelter and, most importantly, to the people we serve.
As the event moves forward this year as Dancing for Life, we also want to provide clarity to our community. The Floyd County Homeless Shelter and its Board of Directors have not been involved in the planning, organization, management, or financial administration of this year’s event. Decisions regarding this year’s event have been made independently of the shelter and its Board. We have received confirmation that money raised from the 2026 dance will be donated to the Floyd County Homeless Shelter/Maddiwar House of Hope.
Although we are not involved in this year’s event as we have been in years past, we sincerely wish Dancing for Life, Mickey, the dancers, volunteers, and everyone participating nothing but success. We believe there is room in Eastern Kentucky for every organization, event, and group of people working to make life better for our neighbors.
We encourage our community to continue showing up for one another. Support the dancers. Celebrate the volunteers. Attend the events and support the causes that are meaningful to you. Every positive effort to strengthen Eastern Kentucky deserves encouragement.
Meanwhile, the Floyd County Homeless Shelter Board of Directors will remain focused on our mission: providing shelter, meals, resources, dignity, and hope to individuals experiencing homelessness and helping them take meaningful steps toward stability.
To everyone who has supported our shelter in the past, who supports us today, and who continues to believe in the work being done across Eastern Kentucky—thank you.
