We’re thrilled to introduce two new certified teachers joining the Onward team for the upcoming school year—Preston Long and Chelsi Brown!
Preston brings 9 years of experience teaching all core subjects (and even a few electives!) to a diverse group of at-risk students in grades 1–8 within the Los Angeles school system. He also spent time at Upland Hills School in Michigan, where he explored the powerful contrast between love-based learning and traditional fear-based models. Preston shares, “I am very excited for the opportunity to join the learning community that Mary Jo and the devoted Onward staff have nurtured and grown in Martin.” Preston spent a week with us earlier in the year and the kids are very excited he's decided to come to Onward!
Chelsi joins us with 9 years of experience as a special education teacher in the public school system. She is especially excited to be part of the Onward community alongside her own children, supporting their learning and growth firsthand. Chelsi deeply values Onward’s emphasis on independence, hands-on learning, and meaningful, nature-based experiences. She says, “I am truly looking forward to becoming part of a community that values connection, curiosity, and a love-based approach to learning.”
