Hidden Waters Nature Park

The Friends of Hidden Waters were again honored to host a stop for the Cherokee Youth's "Remember the Removal" at the Beckner Welcome Center. This event is a bicycle journey along the Trail of Tears taken by their ancestors. Lunch was provided at the Center allowing them to rest briefly, eat, and have fun chasing crawdads in the creek. We hope to see the group again next year.

Missouri native plants are very difficult to source close to home here in southwest Missouri. That is why we were thrilled to accept a generous donation of native plants from the new Marshfield NURSERY located on A Highway just south of KK. Thank you! It is very much appreciated... and we will look forward to tucking them into areas of the park soon. If anyone wishes to take the opportunity to incorporate a few native plants into their landscape this year, the pollinators will be grateful. The plants were all grown locally here from seed. There are other non-native plants available, but we encourage you to consider native species.

We were delighted to host Niangua students, teachers, and parents for a summer school outing this morning. After viewing the "I Spy With My Own Little Eyes" presentation inside the Welcome Center, the Callaway Cabin was opened for them to tour. After so much recent rain, the weather cooperated! It was a beautiful morning to explore the park and play in the creek. We hope they will come again!

There is still room for a few more adults and lots of children to attend this educational event. Message us to get your name on the list! A flyer is being posted at the Webster County Library. Bring the kids or grandkids and get a jump on summer with a fun and informational event! IT'S FREE!

Since several events happening in the park are causing scheduling conflicts, the regular Second Saturday workday will NOT be held on June 13th. Instead, volunteers and board members plan to attend to needed tasks prior to that Saturday... at times and dates of their own convenience. We will resume Second Saturdays in July. Thanks to all who help out.
