I’ve finally had a chance to catch my breath after Family Fun Day, and as I look back on the day, my heart is full.
Every year I’m reminded that events like this don’t happen because of one person or one organization—they happen because an entire community comes together. There are so many people I want to thank, and while I’m sure I’ll unintentionally miss someone, please know how deeply grateful I am for every person who helped make this year’s Family Fun Day such a wonderful celebration for our children and families.
First and foremost, thank you to our presenting sponsors, Michael and Kathleen and everyone at Pembroke School of Performing Arts. Your dancers, parents, staff, and volunteers bring so much excitement and positive energy to Family Fun Day year after year. Your unwavering support has helped make this event what it is today, and I simply can’t imagine it without you.
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors whose generosity allows us to continue offering so many activities for families: Tracy Britt of Pack Perspective; Valerie McSorley of South Shore Hive; Budget Blinds; Kaplan Family Financial; Multi State Electric; Green Harbor Golf Club; The Winn Family; Roxie’s of Quincy; and Steve Nielsen, whose sponsorship in loving memory of Phyllis Nielsen continues to honor the woman who inspired this special day.
A heartfelt thank you to the Marshfield Police Relief Association, led by Officers Brendan Meehan, Zach Coyne, and Brian Tingly, along with Lara Brait, for your incredible partnership and willingness to jump in wherever needed. A special shout-out to Smokey & the Brisket, the Marshfield Police Relief Association’s award-winning barbecue competition team, for serving up an amazing meal. We hope everyone will stop by and cheer them on as they compete again this September!
One of the biggest hits of the afternoon was our Touch A Truck area. The smiles on the children’s faces as they climbed aboard the vehicles, honked horns, and listened to sirens made it easy to see why it has become such a favorite. Thank you to Chris Tramonte of Crystal Clear Detailing for organizing and sponsoring this incredible attraction, and to the Marshfield Police Department, Marshfield Fire Department, Scituate Concrete Products, Lisa Reich of Archway Mediation Solutions, Grover Hensley, Express Towing, Biviano Contracting and the Marshfield Food Pantry for helping create such a memorable experience.
This year, thanks to the generosity of Goodwill Hunters, we were able to expand our Nonprofit Row, giving families the opportunity to meet organizations doing incredible work throughout Marshfield and the South Shore. Thank you to Goodwill Hunters, Marshfield Soccer, the Marshfield Food Pantry, A Simple Gesture, Sowing Seeds, the Daniel Webster Preservation Trust, the JPH Organization, the Marshfield Farmers Market, and the Ventress Memorial Library Youth Program for spending the day connecting with our community.
To the Nielsen family—thank you for bringing your adorable baby goats and, of course, Phish the Cow. The joy you brought to children (and plenty of adults!) was impossible to miss.
Thank you to Stacia Boynton of Sea to Believe for sponsoring one of our interactive children’s activity areas and to Miranda Boynton, the new owner of Marshfield Pediatric Dentistry, for bringing such wonderful energy and enthusiasm while encouraging children to play, create, and explore.
The Sidewalk Chalk Creativity Zone has become my little labor of love. Every year, I happily sponsor the sidewalk chalk, the chalk giveaway, and the creativity area because I believe some of the best childhood memories come from the simplest moments. There is something so special about watching children transform the walkways of the Daniel Webster Estate into colorful works of art before heading home with chalk to continue creating on their own driveways.
This year, I was incredibly fortunate to have Vic, a talented college art student from Duxbury, by my side. From helping set up the Creativity Zone to spending the afternoon face painting, she brought so much kindness, patience, creativity, and enthusiasm to every child she met. Thank you, Vic, for helping make the day even more magical.
To our volunteers—thank you. Whether you worked the bake sale, sold food and beverages, collected donations at the bounce houses, answered questions, or quietly filled in wherever help was needed, your efforts never went unnoticed. Events like this simply don’t happen without people willing to give their time.
Thank you to Larry Nelson from WATD for keeping the music playing throughout the afternoon and creating such a fun atmosphere. Thank you to Joe the Storyteller, whose stories, puppets, and imagination continue to delight children year after year.
Thank you to Jim Bunnell and the Boys & Girls Club for helping us spread the word by sharing our event with your campers. And thank you to the many local businesses that welcomed our event signs into your windows. Every act of support helped more families discover Family Fun Day.
The evening before Family Fun Day is always a whirlwind of last-minute preparations, and I want to extend a very personal thank you to Chris Tramonte and his sister Ashley for rolling up their sleeves and helping get everything ready. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when kind people simply show up to help.
Finally, thank you to my fellow board members: Barbara Carney, Mickey Carr, Elizabeth Cook, Lynne Bartos, Stacia Boynton, Dave Harrington, Karyn Lux, Ann McAleer, Kerre McDonough, Larry Nelson, and Christopher Tramonte. Thank you for the hours of planning, problem-solving, heavy lifting, and behind-the-scenes work that most people never see. It truly takes a village, and I am grateful to be part of one with all of you.
If I have forgotten anyone, please know it was never intentional. My gratitude extends to every sponsor, volunteer, donor, performer, nonprofit, business, family, and friend who helped make this year’s Family Fun Day such a success.
Watching children laugh, parents reconnect, grandparents make memories with their grandchildren, and neighbors spend an afternoon together is exactly what this day is all about.
