It's with great sorrow that I share our beloved Kismet crossed over the rainbow bridge at 1:00 am this morning. Only 2 days ago, I received her DNA results and dicovered she was registered with the Arabian Horse Association. Her registered name was Forever Myfantasy. She was born on 6/30/2001. She was a broodmare, and momma to 5 babies; her last, a c**t named Florenteyn+, born on 5/7/14 in Magnolia Texas. How she ended up at an auction clear across the country, in deplorable condition, is a very sad mystery.
In the 4 months she was here, she was brought back to a healthy weight through good nutrition. Bloodwork determined she had a condition called Cushing's Disease and she was started on daily medication to keep it under control. She became "herd boss" in our little herd of 3 and enjoyed running along our "track paddock". She was super sweet and kind and a Joy to have around.
Sadly, a month ago, she experienced a bout of colic (abdominal pain). Fortunately, we were able to pull her out of it with treatment. Colic can be life threatening. Last weekend, she was colicky again. Once again, she seemed to pull through the critical stages. She seemed to feel better on Sunday, but colicked again on Monday. The vet sedated her and "tubed" her, a procedure that involves passing a tube through her nose and into her stomach to deliver water, electrolytes and mineral oil into her digestive system with the hope of flushing out any manure impaction that may be causing the pain. It seemed to work, but then late last night, she went downhill again and, despite pain meds, seemed to be in significant pain. Our wonderful veterinarian, Kendyl Foristall-Drass, came out in the late night/wee hours of the morning to see her. After an examination, the decision was made to remove her suffering and peacefully put her to rest. A big Thank you to Dr. Kendyl, Dr.Laura and Jessica from Highland Hill Veterinary Service for all of the care and compassion you gave to Kiss. Also, Thank you to Conneticut Horse Cremation, LLC for your wonderful and dignified service.
