Hot Shots, a 30-year-old soccer and arts program for boys and girls ages 2-7, is seeking a new director and leadership team (marketing, fundraising, coaching, multi-media, events, etc.) because the founder, John Wilpers, will be retiring soon.
The positions are volunteer with a small stipend possible each season (fall, winter, spring).
I'm thinking that, rather than trying to replace myself with one person (which would be a heavy load), why not adopt the "it takes a village" approach? We could create a team of energetic, committed people who could each contribute according to their passions, talents, and available time. It'd also be a heck of a lot more fun to run Hot Shots with other fun people!
BACKGROUND: The program was founded in 1995 to build girls' self-esteem, parental bonds, love of reading, and athletic skills.
We use puppets, parachutes, sq**rt guns, pillow fights, and other imaginative tools to teach soccer. One of our distinguishing characteristics is 100% parent participation to build those parent-child bonds.
We have a story time at the end of each session and send every kid home each week with a bag of five books.
We started an art, dance, and music program in 2021, and started admitting boys in 2023.
Over 30 years, we have graduated 5,000 young children, trained almost 300 junior high and high school coaches, donated $20,000 worth of books to the Marshfield elementary schools, and given $15,000 worth of scholarships to our coaches.
And over hundreds of Sunday mornings, we've given thousands of families an hour of joy, lasting memories, and deepened bonds with their children.
