Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown Located in Marshalltown, Iowa Over the last 70 years the shelter has adopted over 30,000 pets into new homes and reunited over 10,000 pets with their families.

Our mission is to reunite pets with their families, find new loving homes for adoptable animals, and strengthen the bond between humans and their animal companions. The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown was created in 1948 to provide housing and care to homeless companion animals in the community. Through the generous support of the community the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown will continue to be a safe haven for animals for many more decades.

🐾❤️ MEET ME MONDAY: SPIKE! ❤️🐾

We’re back again to shine a little extra spotlight on Spike! You may have seen us post about this handsome boy before, but we really don’t think he’s gotten nearly as much attention as he deserves. 🥹

Spike has been waiting at the shelter since January 2025. That’s a whole lot of days spent hoping his person will finally come along. You may have seen our posts about Jeffrey and Kenai, two of our longest residents who finally got to go home last week! 🎉 Now, let’s keep that ball rolling and help Spike find his happy ending, too! 🏡❤️

Spike is a playful, energetic boy who loves to zoom around and burn off some excitement. He might need a little time to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, his affectionate side comes shining through. Tummy rubs are a definite favorite, and he loves attention from the people he knows and trusts!

Because Spike is a strong boy with lots of enthusiasm, he’s looking for a calm, adult-only home where he can have consistency, structure, playtime, and someone willing to give him the chance to settle in at his own pace. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion with so much love to give. 🐶💕

Spike has waited long enough for someone to choose him. Let’s make his turn to go home happen! Please share his post, spread the word, and help us find the special person who will give this boy the fresh start he deserves. ❤️🐾

Meet Cassie, a sweet girl with a big heart and a personality that’s blossomed beautifully! After coming such a long way in rescue, she’s ready to find a family to call her own. 🥹💗

Cassie is a friendly, affectionate girl who loves being around her people and soaking up all the pets and attention she can get. She enjoys being part of the action and is always happy to share a little love with those around her. With her sweet nature and loving personality, Cassie is sure to make a wonderful companion!

🐾 TWO LONG-TIME RESIDENTS, TWO FOREVER HOMES! 🏡❤️
Some adoption stories hit a little extra close to home, and these two are no exception. 🥹
Kenai (Key - nigh) came to us as a stray in March 2025. When he first arrived, he was incredibly fearful of new people and struggled with the fear and reactivity that came with it. Our staff worked hard with him, helping him build confidence and learn to trust. As his training progressed, so did his personality! We watched a fun, energetic, loving pup emerge, and before long, Kenai had worked his way into all of our hearts. ❤️
Jeffrey came to us as a stray in August 2023. He’s always been a reserved, shy guy around new people, but once he warms up, he turns into the sweetest lovebug who just wants all your attention. 🥰 Noteable fact: Jeffrey has been at the ARL longer than our Executive Director, Austin Gillis, has!
These boys have been such a special part of our ARL family. They’ve grown, learned, and waited patiently for their chance at a forever home. Both were among our TOP FIVE longest-staying dogs currently at the shelter, Jeffrey being our number one longest resident, making this news even sweeter.
And now, after all that waiting, KENAI AND JEFFREY ARE OFFICIALLY HOME! 🎉🐶
We are beyond excited and incredibly grateful to the families who opened their hearts and homes to these deserving boys. Saying goodbye too long-time residents is always bittersweet, but knowing they’re finally starting their next chapters surrounded by love makes every moment worth it.
Kenai and Jeffrey, you will always be part of our family. Here’s to full hearts, cozy couches, endless adventures, and the forever homes you’ve always deserved. ❤️🏡

This is Bert. It has been 2 months since he was last seen at home near 16th Street and Summit. He is a large tuxedo cat. He has a crooked white stripe down one side of his face. He has one white front arm and one black. He was wearing a green break away collar with avocados on it with a blue tag on that has my address and phone number, but he may not have this collar on anymore. The ARL of Marshalltown is trying something new!

We’re testing out a monthly newsletter called The Paw Print, designed to keep our community up to date on what’s happening around the ARL.

Our first issue includes:
