Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown Located in Marshalltown, Iowa Over the last 70 years the shelter has adopted over 30,000 pets into new homes and reunited over 10,000 pets with their families.

Our mission is to reunite pets with their families, find new loving homes for adoptable animals, and strengthen the bond between humans and their animal companions. The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown was created in 1948 to provide housing and care to homeless companion animals in the community. Through the generous support of the community the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown will continue to be a safe haven for animals for many more decades.

The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown is proud to recognize our Executive Director, Austin Gillis, who has been awarded one of only 15 national scholarships from Humane World for Animals to attend the 2026 Taking Action for Animals (TAFA) conference in Washington, D.C.

This scholarship is a significant honor and reflects Austin’s dedication to strengthening animal welfare policy, improving community safety, and advocating for stronger protections for animals across Iowa. TAFA brings together leaders from across the country to collaborate on legislation, humane education, and effective advocacy strategies — and we are proud that Austin will be representing Marshalltown and Iowa on this national stage.

Austin’s leadership continues to move our organization forward, and this opportunity will allow him to bring back new tools, and even more knowledge, and connections that will directly benefit the animals and families we serve every day.

🐾 **Update on Hennessy's Journey Home** 🐾

Hennessy's family is overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of love, support, and generosity from everyone who has reached out. Your kindness has meant more than words can express during this difficult time.

The family is currently planning to leave late Sunday night or early Monday morning to begin their journey to bring Hennessy home.

We have also been told that they are overwhelmed by the volume of donations being offered. If you experience issues with their donation platforms, please be patient and try again later, as there has been a tremendous amount of traffic and support.

Thank you all for rallying around Hennessy and her family. The compassion shown by this community has been truly amazing. ❤️

Many of you have been following Hennessy's story, and we wanted to share an official update.

Hennessy was adopted from our shelter in 2019 and has been loved ever since. While traveling with her dad, a tragic accident left Hennessy without him and without a way home to Iowa. Through an incredibly difficult situation, one thing has become clear—Hennessy is deeply loved.

Her extended family in Iowa immediately stepped up and made it clear that they were not going to leave her behind in West Virginia. They are currently making plans to travel and bring Hennessy home where she belongs.

As you can imagine, an unexpected trip of this magnitude comes with many expenses. Fuel, hotel stays, meals, and final arrangements all add up quickly. We would love to help ease some of that burden and show this family the strength of our community.

If you would like to support Hennessy's journey home, we will be accepting cash donations and checks made directly payable to the family at the shelter. After 4:00 PM on Saturday, we will ensure that all donations collected are given to the family.

We also want to give a special thanks to Kanawha- Charleston Humane Association for taking in Hennessy and getting in contact with her extended family so that she can continue to live with those who adore her ♡

🐾 **Hennessy Update** 🐾

We are happy to share that Hennessy's next of kin has been located! ❤️

This morning, they were able to FaceTime with Hennessy, and it seemed to lift her spirits tremendously. Seeing and hearing a familiar face made a world of difference for this sweet girl.

Her family is currently making plans to travel to West Virginia to bring her home as soon as possible. We are so grateful for everyone who shared her story, helped spread the word, and kept Hennessy in their thoughts.

Thank you all for your compassion and support. We look forward to seeing Hennessy reunited with her family soon! 🐶💕

🚗❤️ A HUGE shout‑out to Hogeland Auto Plaza today.

We had a tough situation at the shelter this afternoon. A very distraught woman arrived seeking help for her poodle pup. In the chaos of the moment, she stepped out to open the hatch — and her pup, with impeccable timing, stepped on the lock button. Windows up. Engine off. Dog locked inside. Her day went from bad to worse in seconds.

We immediately called Hogeland Auto Plaza with a desperate plea for help.
Within 15 minutes, Mr. Levi Hogeland himself left his lunch break, detoured straight to the shelter, and got to work.

Not only did he unlock the car in no time, he showed this woman genuine empathy and kindness — the kind you can’t fake, and the kind she clearly needed on a very hard day.
