New faces, new opportunities.

NEW BOARD MEMBER: At the October Board of Directors meeting, Taylor Nederhoff of Iowa Falls took the oath of office as Director for District I. He fills the seat held for many years by Larry Johnson. District I includes the AGWSR, Alden, and Iowa Falls school districts, along with parts of Aplington-Parkersburg and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. Taylor will also serve on the Board’s Personnel Committee.

NEW EMPLOYEES: We also introduced eight new members of the Iowa Valley team. Several of these roles exist because demand is growing, especially in manufacturing and skilled trades:

β€’ Sheila Winburn, Welding Faculty, MCC

β€’ Amit Deb Nath, Robotics and Automation Faculty, MCC

β€’ Jessica Goforth, English Faculty, MCC

β€’ Gena Wolgamott, English Faculty, MCC

β€’ John Gallien, Psychology Faculty, MCC

β€’ Saif Habib, Director of Institutional Research and Assessment

β€’ David Neille, Instructional Designer and LMS Administrator

β€’ Trudi Foval-Johnson, Learning Services Specialist, MCC

The same meeting included a presentation on what’s behind this fall’s enrollment growth across the District. In short, more students are choosing Iowa Valley, and we’re building the faculty and support to serve them well.

If you know any of our new colleagues, please say hello and help us welcome them.

Longtime IVCCD Board Member Larry Johnson Retires After 40 Years of Service

The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) extends its deepest gratitude and best wishes to Larry Johnson, who has retired from the Board of Directors after four decades of extraordinary service.

First elected to the Board in 1986, Larry’s background as a educator, local attorney, and community leader helped guide IVCCD through decades of growth, regional unity, and expanded workforce training programs across Ellsworth Community College, Marshalltown Community College, and Iowa Valley Grinnell.

Thank you, Larry, for your unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and communities across central Iowa!

Ellsworth Community College has been awarded a $1 million Career Academy Incentive Fund grant from the state of Iowa, funding one new career academy and expanding three existing academies:

β€’ Construction (new)
β€’ Agriculture
β€’ Business Administration
β€’ Welding

What is a Career Academy?
A career academy is a structured program that lets high school students take career and technical education (CTE) courses that count toward both their high school diploma and college credit at the same time, through concurrent enrollment.

The CAIF grant will renovate ECC's Trades and Industries building, add industry-standard equipment, and create dedicated space for construction coursework, giving high school students in Iowa Falls-Alden, South Hardin, AGWSR, and BCLUW a direct path to hands-on training, college credit, and industry credentials before they graduate.

Huge thanks to Ashtyn Beek and Honoria Balogh, whose work on the grant application made this possible.
