🌅 Sunrise Rotary Spotlight!

Today, Marshall Sunrise Rotary was pleased to welcome Lori Alf of Help Tuck Them In , sponsored by Rotarian Dave Olafson.

Lori shared the mission and impact of Help Tuck Them In, an organization dedicated to providing beds and bedding to children in need. Her presentation highlighted how something as simple as a safe, comfortable place to sleep can make a meaningful difference in a child's health, well-being, and ability to succeed.

Members learned about the organization's remarkable growth and impact since its first delivery on May 25, 2023. To date, Help Tuck Them In has delivered 41 cribs and 423 beds, helping ensure that hundreds of children have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

Last week, Sunrise Rotary was pleased to welcome Mayor Bob Byrnes, sponsored by Rotarian John Allen.

Mayor Byrnes shared his presentation, “Forty Topics for the Past 40 Years,” giving members a look back at events, projects, changes, and memorable moments that have helped shape our community over the past four decades.

The presentation offered a great opportunity to reflect on how much our community has changed while appreciating the experiences, projects, and events that have helped make Marshall what it is today.

This week, Sunrise Rotary was honored to welcome Staff Sgt. Jaden Hoffman, sponsored by Rotarian Bill Mulso.

Staff Sgt. Hoffman briefed the club on his most recent deployment, offering a firsthand look at the responsibilities, challenges, and teamwork required in today’s operational environments. He shared how service members balance mission duties with the constant need for continued preparation and training, ensuring they’re ready for any situation that arises.

Deployment responsibilities and daily operational demands

Coordination in the field and how units work together under pressure

Last week, Sunrise Rotary was delighted to welcome Tiffany — “The Chaos Coordinator” at the Marshall Area YMCA Thrift Store, sponsored by Rotarian Cindy Rosa.

Tiffany brought the club behind the scenes for an eye‑opening look at how the YMCA Thrift Store really operates — the systems, the surprises, and the sheer amount of coordination required to keep the store running smoothly and serving the community every single day.

đź›’ What We Learned
Tiffany walked members through the full lifecycle of a donated item — from intake, sorting, cleaning, pricing, and staging, all the way to the sales floor. Her tour highlighted how much thoughtful work goes into making the store welcoming, organized, and accessible for families who rely on it.

She also shared how the team manages the constant flow of donations, the creative problem‑solving required when unexpected items arrive, and the importance of maintaining a space that is both functional and dignified for shoppers.

🌅 Sunrise Rotary Spotlight! 🌟
Last week, Sunrise Rotary was honored to welcome Audra Klinkner, Executive Director of the The Action Foundation, sponsored by Rotarian Meg Louwagie.

Audra shared a personal story from a recent trip to Devils Tower — not as an uplifting moment, but as a clear example of how often “access” is misunderstood in our National Parks. What was labeled as accessible simply wasn’t, highlighting the gap between what parks say they offer and what people with mobility challenges actually need to participate fully and safely.

Her experience underscored an important truth:
access isn’t achieved through good intentions — it’s achieved through usable, functional design that meets real‑world needs.

Audra walked members through how the Action Foundation is working to close that gap. She highlighted their adaptive chair program, including last month the Foundation gifted a chair to a veteran, giving him the ability to explore outdoor spaces that had long been out of reach.

She also shared details about a major upcoming event:
a chair giveaway at U.S. Bank Stadium on September 11, 2026, honoring service and expanding meaningful access for individuals and families.

đźš™ Tow & Go Program Launch
Audra explained the Foundation’s newest initiative — the Tow & Go Program.
The Tow & Go trailer is a specialized mobile unit carrying free‑to‑use, all‑terrain adaptive mobility equipment, including track chairs, designed to help individuals with mobility challenges explore the outdoors. This program removes one of the biggest barriers families face: getting the right equipment to the right place. Tow & Go brings accessibility directly to parks, trails, and community events.

Audra’s visit reminded Sunrise Rotary that improving access begins with listening, acknowledging gaps, and committing to solutions that truly work for the people who need them.
