We want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who made our Harrison County America 250 Freedom Fest celebration an unforgettable event!

While the weather unfortunately forced the drone company to cancel the drone show, please know we are already actively looking for a date to reschedule that portion of the event. Stay tuned for updates and thank you for your understanding.

We are incredibly proud of the amazing teamwork that went into this. It took a true village, including:
• Our incredible volunteer citizens who gave their time and energy
• Seamless coordination between municipal, county, and state governments
• The dedicated protection of local emergency services and first responders
• Our citizens who engaged in a special community-wide event

We give a huge shoutout and thank you to all the wonderful vendors who participated in our all-day event. Your fantastic food, crafts, and activities kept the energy high and gave our community a memorable day.

A very special thanks goes out to Roger Creager and his band. We are so incredibly thankful to them for waiting out the weather and taking the stage after the rain had passed. Their performance was a truly great cap to a day full of free activities for our citizens as we celebrated our Independence Day together.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to all of our local sponsors. We literally could not have pulled this off without your incredible generosity.

This level of community spirit and city-county-state cooperation proves we can do big things together. Let’s use this momentum to build for even bigger and better events in the future.

Keep an eye on this page for announcements about the new drone show date.

Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson | First Lady, Environmentalist

Born near Karnack in 1912, Claudia Alta Taylor developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. Claudia’s nanny, Alice Tittle, nicknamed her “Lady Bird.” The name stuck despite the child’s early protests. Lady Bird spent her childhood roaming through thick pine forests and exploring Caddo Lake. She delighted in the first daffodils of spring and when the first one bloomed she would “have a little ceremony and name it the queen.”

Lady Bird was almost valedictorian of her class at Marshall High School. She was shy and so afraid of making a graduation speech that she made sure to rank third in her class by a single point. After graduating from the University of Texas, she married Lyndon Baines Johnson, an up-and-coming politician who shared her love of the Texas landscape.

When her husband became President of the United States, Lady Bird overcame her natural shyness to become an advocate for the natural environment. As First Lady, she helped promote a national beautification program that resulted in the 1965 Highway Beautification Act.

After leaving the White House, she established the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin and continued to promote natural preservation. When she died in 2007, she left behind a legacy of dedication to the environment and love of her home state.
