Marshall Food4Kids

We provide nutritious snack bags to students in Head Start, preschool through grade 6, and at MATEC.

• The program provides food support to public school students by sending home a bag of healthy snacks for the weekend.
• The program started in 2013 serving 98 children and grew to more than 200 students in less than a year. About 825 children are currently enrolled and more are regularly being added as funding allows.
• The food is packed by volunteers and delivered to schools weekly.
• We distri

buted a record 32,362 bags in the 2019-2020 school year (mostly higher due to COVID lockdowns) and 19,883 bags in the 2020-2021 school year.
• We are a 100% volunteer organization.
• Any child in Head Start or any Marshall Public School student who wants extra food assistance for the weekend, with a parent or guardian’s consent, is eligible to participate in the program.

Our 2026 Sponsor A Child Campaign is officially underway!

Marshall Food4Kids recently completed our 13th year of providing nutritious weekly snacks to children in our community during the school year. We currently serve an average of 780 students each week and have already provided more than 25,000 supplemental food bags this school year.

The need continues to grow. Rising food costs and the loss of a major grant have made community support more important than ever. We also had to make the difficult decision to discontinue service for 7th and 8th graders so we could focus limited resources on younger students. Restoring service for those students remains an immediate priority.

A gift of $175 sponsors one child for a full school year, and any amount helps.

A big thank you to members of Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center's Surgery Department and their families for volunteering with Marshall Food4Kids on April 15!

This wonderful group packed 782 bags to help support local kids in our community. We are so grateful for your time, energy, and willingness to give back. Your support helps make sure children have food for the weekends, and that truly makes a difference.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to be part of Give to the Max Day through the Wine Walkabout event at Tall Grass Liquor! 🍷

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, visited with us, and supported Marshall Food4Kids—we’re excited to share that we received a $320 donation from this event! Every dollar helps us continue providing food to kids in our community who need it most.

A big thank you to United Way of Southwest Minnesota for organizing this partnership and to Tall Grass Liquor for hosting such a fun and meaningful evening. We truly appreciate the support and generosity that make events like this possible!
