On Tuesday, October 13th, around 40 students spent the day at Minnesota West in Granite Falls for the Explore event, hosted in partnership with the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council!

Students got a firsthand look at several Minnesota West programs, including Business, Liberal Arts & Transfer Pathways, Computer Networking, Early Childhood, Nursing, Powerline, Surgical Technology, and Welding.

It was a great day of hands-on career and college exploration, giving students the chance to experience different pathways and learn more about the opportunities available to them after high school!

Yesterday, 11 seniors at Worthington Senior High School participated in mock interviews with local community leaders! Students had the opportunity to practice their interview skills, build confidence, and receive valuable feedback as they prepare for life after high school.

A big thank you to Bruce Heitkamp, Nobles County Administrator; Jaime Salinas, CEO of Forward Worthington; and Ryan Kruger, Nobles County Sheriff's Office, for taking the time to support our future workforce! đź‘Ź

Today, October 9, local employers visited Murray County Central Schools to conduct mock interviews with students, helping them practice their interview skills, gain confidence, and receive valuable feedback.

With 80 students participating and businesses from across the community taking part, this hands-on experience helped students prepare for future career opportunities.

Thank you to all the local businesses who volunteered their time to invest in the next generation of Southwest Minnesota’s workforce! 👏

It was a beautiful fall day to get out and explore manufacturing careers in southwest Minnesota! 🍂🏭

On Tuesday, October 6, the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council, in partnership with the Minnesota River Valley Career and Technical Education Collaborative, hosted Manufacturing Tours for high school students from across the region!

Five schools and approximately 65 students participated, getting a firsthand look at local manufacturing companies, the wide variety of careers within the industry, and some of the incredible products made right here in our region.

A big thank you to Minnesota West in Granite Falls for hosting lunch and to all of the participating businesses that opened their doors and helped students explore future career possibilities!

These experiences are a great way to connect young people with local careers and show them the opportunities available in their own communities.

Are you supporting a transition-age youth with a disability, ages 14–24, as they prepare for life after high school? Join PACER Center for an upcoming session to learn about career planning, employment services, and supports available to help young people build their path toward employment.

Attendees will learn about the importance of work and career development, explore available employment services and supports, including Minnesota CareerForce Career Pathways programs, and leave with practical tips to help their youth get started.

📍 Marshall | October 14 | 6–7:30 p.m.
📍 Montevideo | October 15 | 6–7:30 p.m.

Sessions will feature Sue Fager and Judy Moses, Parent Trainers & Advocates, who bring both professional and lived experience to supporting families of youth with disabilities.

PIC staff attended the MSSA Regions 6 & 8 Fall Conference in Redwood Falls last week! We enjoyed a great day of learning, connection, and professional development.

They heard from speakers about ethical considerations when using AI and listened to a powerful personal story and presentation titled “There’s No Such Thing as Bad People.” They also participated in an interactive workshop where we navigated a pretend community in which everyone was hard of hearing or deaf, giving us the opportunity to practice different strategies and tools for effective communication.

It was a great day of training and learning—and to top it off, Bridgette was the lucky winner of two different raffle drawings! 🎉
