We changed the policy concerning school fees at Beretslight School. This video will help explain our thinking. No kid will be turned away because they cannot afford school fees but the kids who can pay will be expected to pay.

Thanks to Marianne Z. for the blankets. Marianne made these blankets three years ago and they finally found their way to Uganda. Also thanks to Thrivent for the t-shirts and funds to purchase school books for the school. And what do elephants do on a hot Ugandan afternoon? Well, a swim in the Nile is the perfect answer. Thanks to all for your interest and support as we start year eight at Beretslight.

Hello from Uganda. Joyce, Shelly and I are here for a week. The weather is beautiful and the kids are doing so well. This video is an update of the campus. We haven’t been here for three years due to Covid but life continued on. (The crusade in the video is not connected to Beretslight directly. The Mercyline church that uses one of the school buildings is the crusade sponsor.)

Last day of the school year at Beret’sLight Kindergarten and Junior School and it was a party day. Parents were invited and entertained by the kids. The top class at the kindergarten celebrated graduation to primary one. It was a very good year for the kids. The goal is to be one of the top schools in the Jinga area. The kids attending are from the orphanage and the village of Buwenda. This is a very poor area and the school is turning out to be a great asset. Thanks for your interest and support. Some of us will be visiting the orphanage and school in February. If you have an interest in coming along please let us know.

Hello from Beret’sLight Uganda. This was an important week at the school. For the first time in almost two years we had parent/teacher conferences. The first of three terms is one half completed. The kids take a standard midterm test and then their parents meet with the teacher. (First photo). The second photo shows the parents meeting with the teachers to discuss expectations of both the students and the parents. The goal is to put education first. The goal of Beret’Light school is to be as good as a city school. The parents are on board and excited to proceed. The third photo is of the kindergarten kids posing by the school sign. The video is of some of the older kids during recess.
Knock on wood but Covid seems to be a non factor for now. Thanks for your interest and support.

Hello from Beretslight. I apologize for the long delay in updates. I developed a really bad attitude towards Facebook and refused to have anything to do with them. Well I am over that and ready to get back to sharing the happenings at the orphanage and school. Things have been going well considering the school system was shut down for 20 months due to Covid-19. The orphanage kids still attended classes at Beretslight but the nieghborhood kids couldn’t because of the government mandate. Anyway, school started for everybody two weeks ago. Beretslight school has over 300 kids enrolled and growing.
The kids in the photo are the newest residents at the orphanage. From left to right, Alpha age 4, Christine age 6, and Micheal age 2. They have arrived in the past two weeks and are starting to get settled. Three kids with three sad stories but hopefully will find happiness and stability. Thanks for your prayers, support and patience.

Congratulations to Abraham, Namajja, Maureen and Rashid. They passed the PLE (primary leaving exam) and will be starting high school in September. Passing the PLE is a big deal in Uganda. You must pass to continue your education. These four have worked very hard on their studies and we are very proud of their accomplishment. They are also fine young men and women. Congratulations and best of luck as you continue your education.
