What will the Camp Bright Bird Field Server 01 actually do?
In plain language, Camp Bright Bird Field Server 01 is the electronic headquarters for the entire weekend.
It is a small Raspberry Pi computer that carries the Camp Bright Bird Information Portal with it. When someone connects their phone to the Camp Bright Bird local Wi-Fi, they can open the portal even when normal internet service is unavailable.
It does four major jobs:
1. It gives participants a camp information center
From their phones, veterans and volunteers can open:
•Messages and announcements
•Weather and alerts
•The camp property map
•The weekend schedule
•Hunter profiles
•Volunteer, field-guide, dog, chaplain, and Zebulon profiles
•Meal information
•Pheasant Tales photographs and stories
•Sponsor recognition
•Rules and award information
•Nearby stores, fuel, pharmacies, and other resources
•Donations and fundraising information
•Lost and found
•Downloadable maps and documents
There is also a large Return to •Camp button that opens directions back to the driveway entrance.
2. It operates the registration desk
Staff can use it to:
•Check people in
•Verify identification
•Record signed waivers
•Take or upload profile photographs
•Assign Camp Bright Bird tents and sleeping spaces
•Record RV, tent, CPAP, mobility, parking, and access needs
•Keep emergency and operational notes
•Generate an individual secure QR login for each participant
•Automatically creates the participant’s profile card
3. It creates the trading-card profiles
•The server takes the person’s:
Photograph
•Approved display name
•Hometown
•Camp role
It then automatically places that information into the correct Camp Bright Bird card design.
The card category changes by color:
Hunter: olive green
Volunteer: blue
Field Guide: blaze orange
Dog: red
Chaplain: specialized chaplain artwork
Zebulon: dog card designated as the camp mascot
The full-resolution PNG can be downloaded, while a smaller television-ready copy is generated for Camp Bright Bird TV.
4. It runs Camp Bright Bird TV
The large television under the Rally Point tent can automatically rotate through:
Welcome screens
Weather
Arrival and check-in totals
Weekend schedule
Announcements
Sponsor recognition
Pheasant Tales
Fundraising information
Hunter, volunteer, guide, dog, and chaplain cards
Zebulon’s mascot card
