The Hot Springs Library in Madison County had a grand reopening today. Our Madison County Rotary Foundation gave $5000 to help buy children's and young adult books for the branch. The Hot Springs Library was a Hurricane Helene casualty and had to be completely gutted and redone. Library Director Kim Bellofatto worked tirelessly to get the library branch back into operation for the community.

Please use caution if travel is necessary.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is prioritizing assets and resources on Interstates, primary routes, and then secondary roads.

Madison County Government leadership and the Emergency Management Team are collaborating regularly with DOT to maintain awareness of roads throughout the County. DOT is reporting they have enough salt to get through at least one more storm, maybe two, but they are being careful to focus on primary State roads to ensure adequate supplies. The DOT crews have been working nonstop over the past 36 hours. With two back-to-back storms, with one reaching as far as the Outer Banks, resource management is critical.

In the most recent update, County leadership expressed appreciation to the DOT leadership and crews.

Please visit the Drive NC Gov Website for the latest road updates at https://drivenc.gov/.

Yep, we really did get snow this time and its still coming down. Making snow angels this afternoon. If it keeps dumping snow like it has been so far I may be tempted to pull out the skis and carve a few turns in our back yard. 😎 ⛷

A call for help from our District Governor Alpo Portelli

Dear District 7670 Rotarians,

As Rotarians in western North Carolina, we understand all too well the devastation a hurricane can bring after our own experience with Hurricane Helene. Our Rotary family in District 7020 — including many islands in the Caribbean — has now been struck hard by Hurricane Melissa, leaving widespread damage and countless families in need.

District 7670 is partnering with Rotary District 7020 and the Disaster Network of Assistance Rotary Action Group (DNA-RAG) to help provide immediate relief and long-term recovery support. Together, we can demonstrate the power of Rotary by turning compassion into action.

How You Can Help:

You can make a secure donation through the Disaster Network of Assistance by visiting www.DNA-RAG.com.

Every contribution — large or small — will help deliver food, clean water, shelter, and vital supplies to those affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Let's come together, as we did after Helene, to serve those who are suffering and to bring hope where it's needed most.

With gratitude and service,

Alpo
District Governor, Rotary District 7670
