💛 Meet Tanner.

Tanner is 9 years old, and he is alive in the best possible way.
He is full of motion and questions and ideas that spill out faster than you can catch them. His imagination is bold. His creativity is captivating. His artistry tells stories words cannot quite hold.
Tanner is “weird.”

And he is proud of it. So are we.

He is not looking for perfection. He is looking for presence. For someone willing to do the hard things. Someone willing to press in and counter what foster care can take from children, the belief that people leave, that love is temporary, and that staying is never guaranteed.

Foster care takes things from children.
Time. Stability. Trust.
But it never takes their worth.

Tanner is precious.
He is worthy of someone choosing him fully.
Worthy of someone staying when it would be easier to walk away.
Worthy of being claimed as a beloved son.

At Welcome Home, we are ready.
Ready to walk alongside, to support, to cheer loudly, to love fiercely, whatever family is willing to say yes to Tanner and show him through their lives that he is worth everything hard and holy about adoption.

Somewhere out there is a family whose story is not complete yet.
It is missing Tanner.

And when they find each other, it will be beautiful

“The deep shame of struggling with adoptive parenting felt crushing,” wrote Kristin T. Lee.

“Since childhood I’d been taught that adoption was beautiful, precious, and God-ordained. Why didn’t it feel that way for me?

When churches oversimplify adoption—treating it as a glorious reflection of God’s plan, as an answer to abortion, or as a form of missions—we distort a complex relationship and set adoptive parents up for failure by putting us in a role that was never ours.

Adoption is not a panacea; rather, it’s the beginning of a long journey.

By reframing how we speak about adoption, recognizing that it originates in brokenness, and presenting a range of adoption stories rather than only the easy or resolved ones, we better prepare prospective parents and normalize the difficulties that adoptive families may face.

The goal is not to discourage or discredit adoption but to ensure it is undertaken with realistic expectations.”
