2021's Evergreen Award recipient, Chris VanAbel embodies leadership, development and selfless skills and traits common in all our recipients. She understands the importance of community and volunteering and leading by example. Read her a snippet of her award reveal below!

“Many of her employees would say Chris is more of a mom than a boss. She has been a babysitter, a filing clerk, a working mother, a mentor for young employees and a staunch advocate for their professional development, certifications and education. She has been instrumental in changing the workplace culture that she has spent decades in. She has understood that giving back is an important part of her life."

“Chris is a strong supporter of the Lake Superior Academy, encouraging her employees to participate every year. Growing Marquette County’s future leaders. Her own leadership is represented in the fact that she has been a member of the YMCA Board of Directors, the Marquette County Ambassadors, the Marquette Kiwanis Club, Marquette County Community Foundation Board of Directors, the Marquette Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and she is on the Finance Committee of her church, just to name a few.”

“Before her retirement she oversaw over 50 employees with over 60% being male. She supported and encouraged her team to become involved service clubs and civic organizations, she even developed a volunteer program that gives each employee hours per month to volunteer, mostly during work hours. This means that over 200 hours per month can be given back to the community.”

Do you know somebody that goes above and beyond in their personal and professional life to mentor women and girls to become future leaders like Chris? Nominate them before September 15!

The 2022 Evergreen Award Winner, Roxanne Daust, understands the importance of community and volunteering and leads by example. She was described as a person who does the work of 2 or 3 people. In her nomination, she was described as undoubtedly the most influential mentor by one of her nominators- providing guidance, motivation, and emotional support. Mentorship isn’t about big and life altering moments- it’s a journey that takes time and consistency. Roxanne, is known to show up for her team each and every day, leading by example, and providing countless opportunities at the table.

Her ‘people focused’ approach to her company, her community, and how she manages, have been instrumental in the reasons she has been nominated for this award. To quote another employee in her nomination, “I can say that from my perspective she seeks to create an environment in which all employees can thrive. She creates a workplace that fosters confidence, and through that strong women emerge. She provides guidance and confidence that allows women at all levels of the organization to realize their capabilities.”

She understands that giving back is an important part of her life.
Daust completed a bachelor's in accounting and information systems at NMU in 1994 and worked her way up from teller to president of Range Bank. Her 2017 appointment as president made her Range Bank's first female chairwoman and chief executive officer in 131 years. She also serves as a member of NMU's Business Advisory Council, which provides guidance, advice and support to the dean to help the college achieve its goals.

Do you know somebody as impressive in improving the lives of women and girls like, Roxanne? Nominate that person before September 15! Email [email protected] to find out how!

Get ready to roll out the red carpet - it's nomination time for the prestigious 2024 Evergreen Award of Marquette County! Who will be the lucky star to snag this surprise accolade? The recipient will hear from the 2023 winner Tia Rodda at the luncheon.

"This year, a shining star emerges - someone who not only sweats blood and tears for the community but also sparks a wildfire of positivity in others. Described as the perfect blend of buddy and guide by a former colleague, she nurtured growth and development, even when it meant losing her as an employee when the employee was promoted."

Tia Rodda, as explained by the Evergreen Award of Marquette County committee, is the unsung hero behind the scenes - a grassroots volunteer extraordinaire who fosters a tribe of volunteers. Juggling roles as a dedicated member of various organizations like the Ishpeming Kiwanis Club, the Ishpeming 4th of July Committee, and chair of the Ishpeming 4th of July Parade, she is a familiar face in the community. Not stopping there, she has also been a board member of the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce, a fan favorite in Dancing with our Stars Marquette County Style, and an active player in the Westwood High School Booster Club, among other groups. And guess what? She does all this with flair while rocking her job as the Assistant Vice President and Regional Manager of Nicolet Bank.

Do you know somebody as amazing as Tia- nominate them today! The deadline is September 15!
