BEWARE: Phishing Scam Email Impersonating Potentate Barrett Engle
This email is trying to trick you. Do not click links, Do not follow these instructions. This is NOT from Barrett Engle (note the email address, which is not his) Please Report, Block, and delete this email if you receive it.
Why does this happen?
Someone else's email is compromised and they are using a contact list and Barrett 's name associated with the compromised email. Often criminals get a mailing list because the sender did not use the BCC line for all email addresses.
1. Call or Text the person who is being impersonated to see if the email or call is true. (Use the number in your contact book NOT any info in the email or call)
2. Always check the email address, do not just rely on the name. Anyone can put any name on their email address. These criminals expect you not to look at the email
3. Never reply to these phishing emails or follow links
4. When sending group email, always put all email addresses in the BCC line so compromised email accounts can't acquire the contact list.
5. Voices can now be copied with AI and will emulate your relatives. They will call with an urgent family emergency of some kind. Before you send money anywhere, call the person who is in "trouble" by phone immediately or their spouse using the contact in your address book.
