If you start to dig around your garden preparing to tuck it in for winter, keep an eye out for who you might encounter. Queen bumble bees are also tucking themselves in for winter! After filling up on pollen for fat reserves to carry them through, queen bees will find a suitable cavity to enter their hibernation-like state through the cold months.

There is still little known about habitat requirements for overwintering queen bees. BUG PEOPLE, assemble! 🐝🐞🪲🪰🐜🐛🦋

This fall, the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning (NCLL) is teaming up with UPLC to present a 4-part series on arthropods. Carmen Greenwood, Entomologist, Conservation Biologist, and board member at the UPLC, combines her passion for land conservation with the conservation of insects (and other arthropods) that support ecosystem health. Join her to get to know your local arthropods and the interconnective role between insects and land conservation!

Thursdays - Oct. 1, Oct. 22, Nov. 19, Dec. 10 from 2-4pm in the Shiras Room Peter White Public Library. $5 for NCLL members, $10 for non-members.

Our collective creativity cups are FULL ☕️ after another stellar Art Walk at Chocolay Bayou Nature Preserve. 🌱

On Saturday, we hosted eight incredible artists selling their wares along the wooded trails of the Bayou. There were block prints, ceramics, tarot cards, photographs, letterpress works, typewriter poems, paintings, and more.

Thank you to the talented artists, the volunteers who helped make it happen, and all who attended!
