Lauri's Angels

Lauri's Angels “Adopt a Student” gift drive for Marquette area kids in need. Started in 2020, in honor of Lauri Rounavaa. Growing up I had a nanny named Lauri Ruonavaara.

My name is Elena Henry, a freshman at Marquette Senior Highschool. I have been in the MAPS school district since kindergarten, and understand the economic diversity of students in our school district. I would like to do something to help my fellow MAPS students that are in need this holiday season. Lauri’s passion was to assure that any child in need has warm clothing as well as gifts over the hol

iday season. She did this by connecting like-minded people to children in need through a network of businesses who would display what she called a “giving tree” in their public areas. On this giving tree each child had an anonymous card with their needs and wants for the holiday season. Patrons of the business would select a student’s card and fulfill their wishes. Lauri died in January 2020, and I would like to continue her tradition by organizing the giving trees and the distribution of gifts in her memory. I would like to call it Lauri’s Angels. I would like to know if your school would like to participate in this program by providing a list of students in need and their list of “needs and wants” so that I can find people that are willing to help. The student’s names can be kept anonymous by the counselors assigning them a number. I have considered additional details and procedures to make this all work out. Last year's program was very successful and I would like to try and expand that. Thank you for your time and consideration, and please get back to me if you would like to help and participate. I am excited to continue Lauri’s legacy
